Un pionero peruano-canadiense, artista, actor, activista y héroe.
El pasado fin de semana, Canadá perdió a una de sus estrellas más brillantes. Bishop Brigante, nacido como Nickolas Parra, falleció después de una valiente batalla contra el cáncer de colon. Más que un MC, fue una voz revolucionaria en el hip-hop, un defensor de la salud y un pilar en la comunidad latina y canadiense.
Desde Scarborough, cruzó a EE. UU. en los 2000s, donde ganó batallas de freestyle, siendo el primer rapero canadiense en ganar respeto internacional. Ayudó a poner a Toronto en el mapa del hip-hop y abrió puertas para generaciones futuras.
Su rol como Vicepresidente de King of the Dot (KOTD) lo hizo clave en el crecimiento mundial del freestyle, mentoreando a artistas y llevando la liga canadiense a ser una referencia global.
Bishop también brilló como actor en la película Narc (2002), junto a Ray Liotta y Jason Patric, mostrando su versatilidad y talento.
Tras ser diagnosticado con cáncer de colon, luchó para cambiar la edad recomendada para realizar una colonoscopia de 50 a 30 años. Su esfuerzo ya está salvando vidas, especialmente entre jóvenes adultos con síntomas tempranos.
Siempre abrazó sus raíces peruanas con orgullo. En su música, fusionó español e inglés, celebrando su cultura y la de otros artistas latino-canadienses. Su legado también incluye colaboraciones con colegas latinos en la industria, como Fito Blanko, Sensei Musica, y DJ Kemo, entre otros.
En canciones como Fuego, rindió homenaje a lugares como "La Punta Negra" en Callao, Perú, y llevaba en su piel un Tumi, símbolo de su amor por su herencia peruana.
Para su familia, amigos y seguidores, Bishop Brigante fue más que un artista, fue un movimiento y un puente entre culturas. Su legado vive en su hijo Lito y en todos los que lo conocieron.
