This year we had an amusement park theme, provided hot dogs, chips, and water for dinner, had activities for all ages, a book swap (I LOVED this idea!), a book fair, face painting, a Photo Booth, guest readers, and games for families to enjoy together.

I also LOVE the Heart Word method of teaching high frequency words to young learners. In the past, many teachers (myself included) required students to memorize these words. However, we now know that memorizing whole words is not the most effective way to teach children to read.
šThe Heart Word method teaches children that there are parts of a high frequency word that are decodable and there may be parts that are notā¦these are the only parts they need to learn by heart. When a high frequency word is fully decodable we call this a FLASH WORD.
