This hike in Sedona, Arizona was one of our favorite mornings during our New Years trip. Even though the hike was only 1.2 miles with 669 feet of elevation gain, it felt MUCH harder to us (even as experienced hikers!) because there was a decent amount of rock scrambling and the recent rain made the rocks extremely slippery. On our way down, we even saw people turning around because they couldn’t make it up 🙈
To get to this hike, we started our day before sunrise and caught the first shuttle out of town (this hike is pretty popular, so there’s shuttles to and from it!) We reached the top just as the sky began to glow from the sunrise and we even had the entire view to ourselves for a couple of minutes. These are the mornings we live for, the early alarms, the quiet trails, and the awe once you make it 🫶🏼

Waking up to this view each morning was a literal DREAM! Since our hotel room didn’t have a 4th wall, we slept inside netting on the bed to keep out any bugs! Each morning we’d wake up, pull back the netting, and dive into our in room pool for a fresh wake up. Then, we’d order room service breakfast and head straight to the beach 🏖️
Each sanctuary has its own pool right next to the bed, so you can wake up with the sunrise every morning and take a quick dip. Our favorite day was taking a sailboat across the bay to hike the Gros Piton that we could see from our bed!
This is one of those hotels that we crave as outdoorsy travelers, and one we think should be on everyone’s bucket list!

Coffee thoughts at Sekumpul Waterfall in North Bali! Instead of hiking here, we each hopped on the back of a stranger’s scooter and hitched a ride down the steep path, through jungle town with kids running around and families cooking lunch together. When the road ended, we walked a few more steps and set eyes on one of the craziest waterfalls we’ve ever seen!
We ordered a coffee and had an awesome moment to ourselves, just taking it all in 💦🌴
📍Sekumpul Waterfall
We spent days hiking all the way to the top of this waterfall at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and reached what we thought was a dead end. We stared down at the descent it would take to get down to the natural pools of blue water that we had planned to swim in and doubt crept into our minds. We had absolutely no idea how we’d scale down a cliff and walk a quarter mile upstream a thunderous river. Seeing the trail end and water take over was a mental road-block, for sure.
But, as we’ve learned, a road-block, a setback, or a missed exit, they’re rarely dead ends. More often, there’s a way past or a route around that you never would’ve found with a perfectly mapped out plan.
Behind every scary moment is a fear waiting to be overcome, and a view you didn’t expect. And in some cases, a version of yourself you haven’t met yet. So this is your sign to keep going 💪🏼

Only in Sedona can you sit down with a burrito bowl and stare straight at red rock views that look like a desktop wallpaper. We went in needing lunch and left wondering why this Chipotle has better scenery than most hotels 😂

We’ll give you a hint, the cactus we’re talking about is the “Saguaro” cactus! 😉
Our 35th national park consisted of a 2 hour drive outside of Phoenix. We found a dispersed campsite with a fire ring about a half hour away from the park entrance. We got there late and left early, but we could already see the tall cacti all around us in the dark.
As usual, we arrived at the park during sunrise, and we were driving on a lonely road through the mountains as golden hour started to light up the 50 foot cacti all around us. We were NOT expecting the cacti to be taller than literal trees, which was a fun surprise! It was time to start exploring 🏜️
There are a bunch of trials all throughout the park, with Saguaros in every direction you look. When you’re at the rim of the canyon, saguaros stretch for miles across the valley, more than you could possibly imagine. Our personal favorite trail was the Desert Discovery Trail 🥾
Disclaimer: The biggest cactus in North America is generally considered the Saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea), but the Giant Cardon cactus (found in Mexico) CAN sometimes be larger. The Saguaro is most famous, reaching over 50 feet tall and living for centuries in the Sonoran Desert. Saguaros are iconic symbols of the American Southwest, providing vital food and shelter for desert wildlife, with some exceptional specimens boasting dozens of arms 🌵

One time, Cara drove for about 10 minutes on a campervan road trip because Tristan was trying to get some sleep, but her “driving scared him so much” that he was “wide awake now” 😂 Well, at least she tried!

Being able to do SIX hikes in 2 days (and still have some time to explore in between) is absolutely unheard of for most hiking towns. Sedona has such a good bang for your buck when it comes to epic views vs time spent

It happened over sushi. Cara wanted to rent a campervan and drive the California coast, and Tristan said, “you’re dreaming.” We ended up arguing passionately in public about how to make something so crazy work.
That night, we both went home and let the idea sink in. “When else are we going to do this?” we thought. Cara resourcefully found a campervan on for $250 a night, flights weren’t as bad as we expected, and we realized we could check off a bucket list item for the cost of a few date nights. “Are we doing this?”
…you bet we were ✈️
Three months later, we returned from our life-changing trip from LA to Big Sur, having experienced campervan living for the first time. Cara posted THESE 10 photos on her personal IG, and they went what we called “mini-viral.” Campervan pages started sharing our photos (without asking), and soon we were in touch with Outdoorsy, who wanted to feature our pictures.
Before long, we were campervanning across Utah, Washington, Colorado, you name it. We were hiking, taking “gallon showers,” and realizing how far one crazy idea can take you.
So here’s to chasing dreams, arguing over sushi, and saying YES to adventure ✨
