先日インタビューさせていただいた、ホヤ研究の第一人者である甲南大学の日下部岳広にお借りした、ホヤを主人公にした小説。
シレッとホヤが学生生活を送る、ほんわかシュールなファンタジーかと思って読み始めたら、突然変異で体がホヤになってしまった男子高校生を巡る倫理論争が展開される。
「人間とは何か」
真面目な問いを扱いながらも、笑えて、泣ける。
著者は元学校教諭とのこと。教育現場での経験が物語の隅々まで息づいていて、登場人物たちの言葉に不思議な説得力がある。
仕事をしながら創作活動を続けるのは本当に大変だと思うけれど、その積み重ねが見事に作品の力になっている。
見習いたい。
私は20年くらい、さまぁ〜ずのファンです。『内村プロデュース』や『さまぁ〜ず×さまぁ〜ず』を見ていた頃は、大竹さんが三兄弟のパパになり、子育てや夫婦生活について語る日が来るなんて想像もしてなかった。そんな変化があるから、ず〜っと楽しめるのかな。自分の子育てにもシンクロするし。
この本は、そんな大竹さんを妻・中村仁美さんの視点から観察したエッセイ集。家のことは妻に任せたい「昭和夫」と、家は休憩する場所じゃないと言い放つ「男前妻」。
大竹さんの迷言や謎行動が次々と登場。中村さんのツッコミが絶妙でずっと面白い。最高です。

素敵な出会いが色々ありましたが、中でも「沈子(ちんし)」と呼ばれる陶器に目を奪われました。
漁網を水中に沈めるための重りだそうですが、プラスチックや金属ではないのは、陶器が海底の岩と擦れて音を発し、魚を驚かせ、網の奥へと追い込む音響効果の狙い。
また釉薬まで濡られた美しい見た目は、強度を上げつつ、海水の染み込みやフジツボなど生物の付着を防ぐため。
機能美が極まったこの素材を、とりあえず廃棄しないであるだけ欲しいと漁師さんに伝えました。
芸術祭実行委員の方々、漁業組合の方々、市役所の方々に大変お世話になりました。感謝。
良い作品をつくりたい。
多分こども(？)が上に乗っかってジャンプしたとかで、ステンレスミラーの一部が剥がれかかってました。
制作パートナーにいち早く修正してもらいました。弱い部分にプラつかを追加し、バージョンアップ。あと10日間、がんばれ虎。

「ウルトラマンを創った」金城哲夫氏は沖縄県出身。当時、アメリカ統治下で日本から切り離されていた沖縄の現状を多くの人に伝えたいという思いを抱き、円谷プロで企画リーダーとして『ウルトラマン』の誕生に携わった。そして沖縄の海には、不思議な姿をしたホヤたちが数多く生息している。金城氏は、故郷の海の生き物たちから着想を得ていたのでは。
ウルトラマンが先か、ホヤが先か。
「それ」をつくれば、皆んな死ぬ。これが原著のタイトル。過激だけどこっちの方が良い。
AIを産業革命になぞらえて、「仕事が奪われる」「アイデンティティが崩れる」といった話はよく耳にする。
この本は冒頭で25億年前の「大酸化事変」から始まる。
シアノバクテリアが光合成を覚え、その副産物として酸素を吐き出し始めた。当時の生物にとって酸素は猛毒だったため、多くの生命は絶滅した。
けれど結果として、その毒を利用できる生物だけが生き残り、世界はまったく別の姿になった。
元には戻らなかった。AIも同じだと、著者は言う。
正直、AIの進化を止めろ！と叫び続ける部分は、どこか昭和のデモ行進のようで苦手だった。
でも、「人類が世界の主役でなくなる未来」描いた内容は、面白い。
一時期SNSで大バズりした珍種です。
ガイコツに見える部分は「血管」で、パンダの斑点は「ただの模様」という、なんとも不思議な構造。
