Aimée came to me with a design that we tweaked together to make it fit her, both physically and spiritually. We ended up incorporating a coverup (something she was already planning) so the placement could really follow and complement the contours of her body.

Moments like this remind me that once an artwork leaves the studio, it takes on a life of its own. Meanings can shift and intertwine with my clients experiences. It also reminds me that every art style, no matter how playful can hold deep value for someone. I come across this fact more often the longer I practice this wonderful craft. Hi!! I’m Mylène, the artist behind Tatami Tattoos. I’m 22 and currently studying fine arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Alongside my studies, I’m pursuing my biggest passion: tattooing.
I work at Temple of Doom, a private studio in Hilversum, under the guidance of my wonderful mentor. While I’ve always loved all creative arts, I’ve found my heart in body adornment: creating meaningful, and sometimes playful, wearable pieces of art.
Tattooing is such a personal and intimate craft, and I’m so grateful to be part of it. With my fine art background, I love exploring the boundary between fine art and tattooing; with deep respect to the roots and traditions of the craft.
I currently work flexibly (meaning we can discuss what day fits our plan best), and first and foremost offer a safe space for everyone in my chair. Whether you have a clear idea, just a feeling or a design ready, they’re all welcome! I don’t work in every style, but I’m always open to ideas and happy to experiment within my visual language.
