Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House is, I think, the largest dolls’ house ever made. It was created in the early 1920s for Queen Mary, designed by Edwin Lutyens, and executed with a level of craftsmanship that makes most real houses left wanting.
Thanks to the work of Lucinda Lambton, we have these marvellous photographs from her book The Queen’s Dolls’ House. It is a thoroughly delightful look at the interiors, the joinery, the tiny fittings, all done with exacting conviction. An excellent addition to one’s interiors library
As I build on my library, I delight in showing you snippets from my latest addition ‘The Englishwoman’s Kitchen’ by Tamsin Day-Lewis and Tony Heathcote. It’s a terrific book and makes me yearn for the Christmas period all over again (baring in mind I was not catering the big day). Kitchens like this seem to be in danger of extinction and I was so pleased to grab my copy so I can continue my adoration of these far more charming kitchens than the gargantuan white hospital ones we see today.
This year we also had the pleasure of publishing the home of Helen Dunstan-Smith. She was just about to move out and offered me the prize of going to photograph it before the lucky owners took possession. Helen, one of the leading minds in the world of Arts and Crafts and her husband Mark, the Medals & Militaria expert from the Antiques Roadshow had created something truly remarkable and I was so excited to have captured it. Another favourite story to grace Tat journal ‘Stoneywell - An Arts and Crafts Delight In a Rocky Outcrop in Leicestershire by Blue Firth founder of, September 2025. Close to my ideal interiors, clean, comforting, well made glorious pieces of furniture. To read the full article click the link in our bio.
Another favourite feature of mine was having home on the Journal. Georgie has been a great friend of mine for years and seeing her career take off has been an utter delight. To read the full feature click the link in our bio. All these photographs were taken by the marvellous
As we sit at the precipice of 2025, it feels like the right moment to revisit some of our favourite stories from the year just gone. We have been hugely grateful to the wonderful team of writers who have contributed to Tat’s Journal.

The first person I want to shine the spotlight on is my dear friend, the photographer, who spoiled us by gifting the journal one of its most romantic articles. Her piece on her great-grandmother, the romance novelist Barbara Cartland, and her home, Camfield Place, is an utter romp. The photographs that accompany it are nothing short of dazzling. Link in bio! And yes that is Barbra Cartland singing.
2025 an odd one, but a good one.
has been giving us great interiors since 1981 and this year is no different, look at this place. A Georgian Style home for Stephen Calloway and Susan Owen’s - art historians, curators and writers. Set in the Suffolk village of Debenham this home has such extraordinary proportions and with the careful hand of these two it has made a truly remarkable home. The first photograph, ‘In ‘Lord Byron’s Parlour’, his bust by Edward Hodges Baily overlooks a ‘Récamier’ daybed of c1800. An etching of Canova’s pyramid tomb hangs above, while a French Charles X marble-topped table takes centre-stage’. If you’re not buying old design books to heft up you knowledge of interiors then I have no hope for the future for the design world. We need to be delving into the past to pave the way for extraordinary design of the future - also it doesn’t just have to be extraordinary it just needs to be heartening. Look at this simple, perfectly executed room by David Hicks featured in The Englishman’s Room by ALVILDE LEES MILNE AND DERRY MOORE. I have compiled a list of second hand books for you to buy for yourself or your loved one - each would make any lover of design wobble kneed. Link in bio.
