Raising kids who are curious about the world, brave enough to explore it, and kind enough to respect it is the goal in our family ๐ŸŒโœจ

Weโ€™re not trying to raise โ€œperfect travellersโ€ โ€” just little humans who ask questions, try new foods (even if itโ€™s one bite ๐Ÿ˜…), listen to different languages with wonder, learn that every place has its own stories and traditions, and treat people and cultures with real respect ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Travel isnโ€™t just the holiday, itโ€™s a mindset:

curiosity, confidence, empathy and adventure

โ€ฆand helping them see the world as their oyster ๐Ÿค

This is your sign to make memories in Bruges ๐Ÿง‡๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช๐ŸŒŸ

Our easy Bruges-with-kids plan:

โœจ Markt Square for peak Christmas magic
Tip - go early and take a break in your hotel or venture elsewhere in the afternoon. This is peak time and itโ€™s BUSY

๐Ÿ›ถ Canal boat ride (kid-approved, minimal effort)
Tip - this also gets super busy so book ahead for one of the first slots

๐Ÿซ Chocolate shop hop + warm drinks
Tip - there are SO many chocolate shops the kids will excited but it can be overwhelming for adults. Ask them to choose their favourites for a visit later on so they get one shop each (and gives them a sense of control)

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ Slow stroll through the prettiest cobbled lanes
Tip- some of the prettiest houses and quietest routes are outside of the Markt Sq and surrounding. When itโ€™s gets too busy head away from the chaos and get some chill time

๐Ÿ’ค Early night = happy little legs + peaceful evening
Tip - all but a few chocolate shops and the market square closes early evening. The streets are quieter and itโ€™s a great time to see the streets lit up! Wrap up warm and go for a post dinner stroll before an early night

๐Ÿš˜ Parking tip: The ring road around the outer canal has free parking and easy access to the centre (15 minutes walk) save ยฃยฃยฃ try to park here.

Drive Time: 4 hours from Essex
Eurostar: 3h 10 from London

A European holiday for less time it takes to get to Cornwall? Yes please! ๐Ÿš

Welcome to Cadzand - Bad in Zeeland, the south eastern region of the Netherlands ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

Zeeland has been on my radar since Amanda wrote for us at in 2025. Her top 10 places to visit in The Netherlands article opened my eyes to all the amazing places to visit outside Amsterdam. Zeeland caught my eye as we love being by the beach, even in winter. So, when the opportunity to spend Christmas in Amsterdam came up we decided to finally visit! ๐ŸŒŠโ„๏ธ

Only 4 hours from our home in Essex, itโ€™s a great place to visit for a short haul road trip (we took ) which makes it super quick compared to the ferry โ›ด๏ธ The beaches in this region are beautiful, the towns were cute and is popular with the Dutch for a beach break. This makes it feel even more authentic and less like a tourist trap.

As for the kids, they loved it! Driving onto was the first WOW moment for them. Then driving through 4 counties all in all blew their minds! We told them to look out for the signs when we entered a new country ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

Iโ€™ll be writing a more in depth guide to Zeeland with our itinerary and lots of tips ๐Ÿ–Š๏ธ

Thank you for writing for us - this is honestly why I started The Little Adventure Club, to share insightful information on family friendly travel in places we may not have even known about โœจ

Come and spend Christmas in The Netherlands with us ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑโœจ

We (royal we ๐Ÿ˜…) drive from our home in Essex to Amsterdam to spend Christmas with my brother ๐Ÿค

After a few days of eating and exploring the city, we headed down to the south eastern region of Zeeland ๐ŸŒŠ

โš“๏ธ FUN FACT - New Zealand was named after the Dutch region of Zeeland following the Dutch explorer Abel Tasmanโ€™s sighting in 1642 ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

We spend a few days in in the area which borders The Netherlands and Belgium

โœจ Places we saw

๐Ÿฅž Middelburg
๐ŸŒŠ Zoutelande
๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช Bruges
๐Ÿš Cadzand - Bad (we LOVED this place!)

Our day in Bruges was busy but magical - Iโ€™m so glad we visited as Iโ€™ve always wanted to go ๐Ÿฅฐ

Zeeland is a great place to visit if you fancy a road trip from the UK. Itโ€™s only 2 hours from Calais and you pass right by Bruges if you fancy a stop off! ๐Ÿซ This region is popular with the Dutch in the summertime and it seems Cadzand-Bad especially is having a glow up with some beautiful new hotels popping us (it was giving New England vibes)

For a more chilled (and probably cheaper) option, we stayed near Nieuwvliet - Bad which had lots of Eurocamp style parks - perfect for families (Iโ€™ll be looking more into this!)

It was absolutely freeeeezing at times but we had such a great Christmas break. We are back home now to chill before normal scheduling resumes ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Have you spent much time in the Netherlands? What about Amsterdam at Christmas? ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

What a year ๐Ÿค Baby boy started school, the launch of, lots of days out and travel ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

Our 2025 map looked like this ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

๐ŸŒฟ Suffolk with โ€” slow mornings, fresh air, and a day at
โš“๏ธ Mediterranean cruise with โ€” new ports, sea days, and new perspective on cruises!
๐ŸŒณEssex days out campaign with Alpacas, miniature trains, wizards and strawberry picking - Essex has so much to offer
๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Chichester half term caravan trip โ€” beach days and peak British family holiday energy
๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Andalusia in August โ€” exploring the region, tapas on repeat, and late nights the kids loved
๐Ÿš Isle of Wight in September for our anniversary โ€” coastal walks, cute villages and a little โ€œusโ€ time
๐ŸŽƒ ๐ŸŽ„then a full-on sprint through Halloween events and Christmas days out
๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ finishing the year in the Netherlands for the Christmas break โ€” Ice skating, canal trip, chilly walks, exploring Holland & Bruges ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

If youโ€™ve been here for the rides, the routes, the real-life family travel โ€” thank you ๐Ÿซถ

Here are my top 10 picks and why ๐ŸŒฟ

Itโ€™s no secret that when I look for hotels & accommodations for our travels, I look for smaller, quieter places, unique location and most importantly - in nature or away from the tourist crowds.

So when choosing my top 10 picks for, I had this in mind as well finding those little gems that make a holiday feel truly special โœจ

Thankfully, The Family Suite has done the hard work for you, curating a collection of hotels with families front and centre โ€“ so whichever one you choose, you know itโ€™s been handpicked with parents in mind ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป

Here are my picks that have those little extras that make you go WOW โœจ

๐ŸŒณ Clayoquot Wilderness Reserve - Vancouver Island, Canada
๐Ÿ”๏ธ AKI Family Resort - South Tyrol, Italy
๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Hasienda Na Xamena - Ibiza, Spain
๐Ÿ›ถ Nimmo Bay, BC, Canada
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Borgo Egnazia, Puglia, Italy
๐ŸŽ… Octola Private Wilderness Lodge, Lapland
๐Ÿ๏ธ Montpelier Nevis, Nevis & St Kitts
๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ Chablรฉ Yukatan, Mexico
๐Ÿ˜ Matetsi Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
๐Ÿฐ Chรขteau de Parc, Pรฉzenas, France

Some once in a lifetime with some long weekend getaways (Iโ€™m looking at you Puglia ๐Ÿ˜) all have been chosen for their locations within nature, cultural experiences and extras that will make parents feel rested whilst the kids are playing ๐ŸŒฟ

๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป Let me know which one stands out to you in the comments!
HELLO to our followers old and new โœจ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป

Itโ€™s been a busy year so far with the launch of our new travel blog, our ongoing campaign with and my littlest starting school! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Iโ€™m just about getting my bearings with the new routines and busy weekends but I thought Iโ€™d reintroduce ourselves as the family behind ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป

Weโ€™re a family of 4 with two princess cats ( Moo + Willow) living in South West Essex - close to the London boarder. Our lovely location allows us to visit the peaceful countryside along with the exciting streets of London ( my hometown ) ๐ŸŒณ

Carl and I are both ex - super yacht crew (yes like ) and spent most of our twenties travelling the Med, Exploring the South of France + Italy (we lived in Antibes for 8 years) and travelling to our home countries (heโ€™s a kiwi) โš“๏ธ

Weโ€™re raising our little ones to enjoy travelling and exploring as much as we do. We believe travelling with children is one of the best gifts we can give them โœจ It opens their minds to new cultures, foods, and ways of life โ€” teaching empathy, curiosity and confidence along the way. Each adventure helps them grow, shaping the way they see the world and their place in it ๐ŸŒ…

Travelling with small children can be tough, especially in the beginning. We changed the way we travelled after having the kids by travelling little and often. We rediscovered (or discovered in Carls case!) the UK and all we have to offer ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง This saved us money on flights and the stress of airports with kids. We have travelled by car around England, Wales and France and itโ€™s been great for us - especially not having to worry about fitting everything into a 20KG case! โœˆ๏ธ

Now the kids are out of the baby / toddler stages, itโ€™s getting easier. The kids have more say in where they would like to go and we give them choices on our day trips so they feel included ๐Ÿ’ซ

We havenโ€™t braved long haul travel yet but we are planning a trip to New Zealand in the near future which is exciting ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ

Iโ€™d love to hear where you are following from in the comments and donโ€™t forget to follow - our new venture! ๐ŸŒŽ โœˆ๏ธ
