Join us this Saturday, April 25 at 6pm, Culver City, 9517 Culver Boulevard. We’ll be having a free flowing conversation on living as an artist, activism, motherhood and community building. Can’t wait to see you there!
We’re honored to announce Tanya Aguiñiga as the 2026-27 Wanlass Artist in Residence. During her residency, she will teach a Fall 2026 Occidental College course, and will mount a solo exhibition at OXY ARTS in Spring 2027.

Oxy students! We encourage you to enroll in Aguiñiga’s Fall 2026 course, “ARTS290 Art Outside the Bounds: Fiber Art + Community” (CRN 1461), a hands-on studio class centered around textile or fiber processes and exploring the varied ways that textile arts can be used in solidarity with social justice movements. No prior fiber art experience is required.

Aguiñiga is an artist, designer, and craftsperson, whose work draws upon Mesoamerican weaving and traditional forms and materials. She often collaborates with other artists and activists to create sculptures, installations, performances, and community-based art projects. Drawing on her upbringing as a binational citizen, who daily crossed the border from Tijuana to San Diego for school, Aguiñiga’s work speaks of the artist’s experience of her divided identity and aspires to tell the larger and often invisible stories of the transnational community.

Aguiñiga began her career by creating collaborative installations with the Border Art Workshop/Taller de Arte Fronterizo, and she co-built and for six years ran a community center in Tijuana, aimed at utilizing arts initiatives to bring attention to injustices facing the local community. In 2016, in response to the deep polarization about the U.S.-Mexico border, Aguiñiga created AMBOS (Art Made Between Opposite Sides), an ongoing series of projects that provides a platform for binational artists.
Missing my everyday. This picture came up this morning, i guess 7 years ago today we were having fun in Puerto Rico… We just had a party for you at my studio this weekend, cause so many of us on the West Coast miss you, so it was fitting this came up…We had a piñata filled with nerds and finger lasers, wood whittling, trucker hat bedazzling, inflatable dinos and gummy bears, percussionists and booty jams. I didn’t think i could handle another sad memorial… I love that every picture i find of us in different cities and different years we are squeezing each other like we don’t wanna let go. I had and am still having such a hard time posting about your passing 💔cause every day its still super hard not having you alive.
Social media is not my favorite place to be or share feels on, but if you have read this far and didn’t know one of my besties, please look up her work and cause she is and was a super remarkable kind hilarious genius badass whose giant heart should be celebrated always.
— there are also special scholarships and programs at (mental health financial funds for craft artists ) and queer/femme woodworking scholarships at both and in her honor that are seeking financial support….
