There are two that stand out to me, and which I love the most in how they express symbolism through textile art. â¨â¨In Berber or Amazigh culture, rugs functioned as cultural storytelling pieces, with symbols representing protection, fertility, and daily life.
Similarly, Ukrainian embroidery is a deeply symbolic traditional craft featuring geometric and floral patterns that represent protection, fertility, and cultural identity.
In both traditions - textiles become vessels of energy.
They hold more than material theyâre made of, or the technique used to create them - they hold the presence, emotion, and quiet prayers of the maker, and the people theyâre created for.
And over the years, I love how that sense of symbolism has found a space in my own work.
When I create, Iâm not thinking about decoration. Iâm thinking about energy - and about how that energy wants to be translated.
With each original piece beginning intuitively - through linework, symbols, stitched forms, and carefully chosen colour, I respond to what I feel from a space, a moment, or sometimes a collectorâs energy. â¨â¨The work becomes less about âmaking something beautifulâ and more about allowing something to come through. And in many ways, I feel Iâm recording what is sensed rather than inventing what is seen.
My intention is always the same:â¨To create works that hold presence.
Pieces that quietly anchor a room or quiet nook of your home.
Pieces that carry faith, memory, and spirit.
Pieces feel less like dĂŠcor - and more like something that belongs to you.
Because art, at its most powerful, doesnât just fill a wall.
It holds a story.
And sometimes, it holds you too â¤ď¸

A longtime collector & retired philosophy professor approached me to create a commission for his home office.
When someone who has spent their life studying consciousness asks you to visually interpret âthe philosophy of consciousnessâ - you pause for more than a moment đ¤Ż
He wanted something mid-sized, thoughtful, subtle and intellectually layered.
A piece that would live in the room where he reads, thinks, and reflects.
And interestingly enough - I already had a drawing in mind.
Months earlier, Iâd created a drawing that felt significant but I didnât yet know who it belonged to. Thatâs usually how making my art unfolds - an idea arrives, I honour it, and then I wait for who or what it belongs to to appear.
When he shared the theme, I immediately knew who that drawing was for and the energy aligned perfectly.
For me, thatâs the magic of commissions. It isnât about âdesigningâ something to fit a specific space, itâs about sensing the energy behind something that I know already exists.
I can feel when a drawing is meant for someone. I can feel which colours resonate. How much negative space is needed. Where tension should sit. Where stillness belongs.
Even though the line work is abstract and minimal - it somehow always makes sense to the person it was created for.
The finished piece is now titled:
âThe Moment Before Consciousness.â
And there is no greater affirmation than a collector truly feeling seen through the work.

Since then, little by little, I found an artistic voice that suits me, sounds like me, and reflects the way I enjoy making art.
Little by little.
Step by next step.
Feeling and thinking how each layer, each step, and each practice fit together and how they feel tactically to perform.
I donât believe finding your artistic voice is a step that can be rushed - it comes to you in increments and aha moments alike - but it definitely needs space and breathing room to grow and take shape.
Itâs an experience that you wonât know youâve found until you feel the âitâs the oneâ kind of moment.
You hit a groove, and itâs like gears shifting into place, maybe not smoothly at first - trial and error and experimentation still need their time.
But once you find it you will know.
Six years later and Iâm still happy with my own artistic experience and practiceâŚ
The way the sunlight hits a newly finished piece when I photograph it, highlighting the texture of each stitch and line work - Iâm still amazed that this beautiful image came from somewhere in my mind and that I brought it to life with my own hands.
Hereâs to another year of making things that bring me joy - and another year of sharing that joy with all of you â¤ď¸

2025 was one of those years. Every time I thought Iâd found some footing and was moving forward - Iâd end up losing it again.
Which made doing anything that required any real consistency a real challenge to say the least.
But last week I woke up on Monday - and the anxiety had shifted. I donât want to jinx myself but almost a full week went by and I felt good.
If youâve ever had ongoing anxiety - you know the relief it brings when it subsides - like you can finally think clearly again.
I donât know if Iâll share this - or if Iâll share this and delete this later. I donât often share about my challenges; the world has enough as it is and I try for this to be my small space for sharing joy.
I know artists make art for many different reasons - some of which to help them move through difficult times or experiences. But itâs almost impossible for me to create art if I donât feel wholly connected to myself.
I canât find the images or meanings - they donât come to me when my brain is cluttered, and the ruminating thoughts are only exasperated with a meditative practice like hand-sewing.
And to be honest - my art for me is an homage to play and childlike wonder; itâs pure joy and energy in the most simplest of forms.
Hopefully this new wave of feeling good will progress and take shape, and move through this year with me, so that I may continue to share my joy here with you.
And if youâre feeling like I feel, or felt, maybe that joy will find you and help you feel or move forward in the most smallest of ways towards your own joy too â¤ď¸

I spent my 20s and 30s pursuing things that I thought I wantedâŚonly to always be left feeling like I was living in someone elseâs skin.
I wasnât comfortable in my self and I didnât feel grounded in myself as a person.
Itâs hard to describe the feeling exactlyâŚonly that I was acutely aware of this sensation that something always felt âoffâ and when I met with others that felt so grounded in the people they were or were being - I was envious.
Turns out, when I look back at who those people are itâs no coincidence that they were artists themselves đ
But coming back to being an artist, giving myself permission to follow that little nudge I had inside myself to create more, is exactly what I needed to find my self, and feel grounded (and happy on the inside) in who I was meant to be.
I spent much of my childhood growing up in my grandmotherâs sewing studio, she was my favourite person in the entire world and helped me foster my sense of creativity at such a young age.
Looking back, I see that all those times I didnât feel like âmyselfâ were just signs to wake me up and make me realize that I wasnât doing the thing I was meant to be doing.
When I finally gave myself permission to create art again. And that energy of the little girl I used to be - sewing her creations and seeing her dreams come to life - came back to me instantly.
Most of the time I still feel like that little girl now.
Running around the streets of Montreal with her doggie, adventuring and finding new things to explore, and drawing & creating the sewn pieces that the little girl I still am inside wants to create.
Itâs a childlike sense of play, of innocence and joy, and an awe and amazement about this life that surrounds me, that still gets me excited every day.
A sense of happiness for the sake of happiness. And that is why I share my art now â¤ď¸
