That year came with so much change, learning new things, settling into a place we were apprehensive about, finding our people, building a life from scratch. Back then, life felt tough in ways we didn’t yet know how to name.
But travel? Travel was cheap.
Our flight to Venice was less than £10, yes, really.
Something that feels almost impossible now.
Sometimes I wish we could go back and tell our 2016 selves what life had in store for them.
How much would change.
How much would make sense.
How far they’d go.

What we show on social media is only a glimpse of our lives: the perfectly curated smiles and happy moments. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have our battles.
This has been the most stressful, painful, and life-changing year for me. Sometimes I look back and wonder how I even coped. I smiled through the days, yet at night I cried myself to sleep. For the first time in my life, I truly realised what worrying can do to you — even physically. And still, every morning, I got up and braved another day.
This year I got to see in action the terms “gaslighting” “reactive abuse” “coercive response”
Yet this year also gave me the greatest gift: a pilgrimage I had dreamed of for so long. Maybe my Lord called me when I needed it most, when I felt helpless and lonely. 🤍
If I had to describe this year in one image:
a girl in a pretty dress, smiling… with tears hidden in her eyes, lost in a dark forest and searching for light… Along the way the girl meets people with masks on (a bit like the wolf in little red riding hood dressing as grandma) yes I know that’s a pathetic example… but my energy is low.
But that’s life, I guess.
Because through all of this, I learned. The hard times became lessons — ones I’ll carry with me forever. I also found my people — those who will stand by me on my worst days, the ones I can truly call mine. The ones who didn’t judge me, question me, try to analyse me or the situations and were just beside me even at midnight. One of them being my amazing husband of course… This year my husband saw me shattered in ways he never did before… he has had immense patience, seeing me breakdown, answering questions he didn’t know the answers too…
and I hope to give all the love and care back to those one day IA after recuperating… I don’t forget and I am one who gives 100X back… I also believe in what’s goes around comes around (so be good, have a gentle heart)
So if this year didn’t go well for you either, don’t be sad.
Maybe it made us stronger in ways we don’t even see yet.
Here’s to hope, healing, and gentler days ahead.
