Stories of contemporary domesticity series curated by explores different interpretations of the notion of home through an open dialogue with contemporary architectural approaches to housing.
The sixteenth episode traces Takeshi Hosaka Architects shaping a #japanese #house into a constellation of creative worlds for a #family of three #artists; a father who is also a scriptwriter; a mother who is also an illustrator; and their daughter Haru, an aspiring pianist and multidisciplinary talent. Kaku-Kaku Kanadel—literally meaning to #write (kaku, 書く), to (kaku, 描く), and to music (kanadel, 奏でる)—emerges as a with its own logic, emotional intelligence, and interrelated rhythms.
In Japanese culture, home is less about fixed rooms and more about a flexible, atmospheric system shaped by light, seasonality, and ritual. Starting from there, the house unfolds in the urban landscape of tailored for an everyday life that fosters creativity, self-expression, and playfulness. Composed of four interconnected volumes, each crowned with a distinct roof, the house negotiates autonomy and togetherness around a central courtyard. Gardens, terraces, nooks, and paths weave a village-like domestic landscape that invites play, curiosity, and quiet wonder. Space is not given in advance but unfolds through bodily movement, sensory perception, and daily habits.
Kaku-Kaku Kanadel transcends conventional notions of domesticity, becoming a constellation of partial enclosures, sensory passages, and lived intervals in which architecture reveals the fragile, evolving structure of everyday coexistence. Through its fragmentation, connectivity, and expressive form, the project redefines the home as a spatial embodiment of coexistence—between autonomy and collectivity, routine and imagination—proposing a renewed paradigm of as an act of creative emancipation.

"Earth Centric Design Lab" by Takeshi Hosaka in Tokyo, Japan.
The scheme is driven by uncompromising environmental responsibility. Tasked with translating the client’s Earth-centric ethos into built form, the architect conceived a space organized around fifteen tables whose tops display maps ranging from antiquity to the present day. A meticulous audit of existing components enabled the near-total reuse or up-cycling of virtually every material.

Earth Space
A room of maps created by humans pooling their wisdom and knowledge to understand the Earth.
We obtained map data from ancient times to the present (and also obtained the copyright),
printed it (film print) on a transparent tempered glass table top,
and conceived a spatial design in which the light from the lighting directly above the table
falls on the floor, projecting an image of the map onto the floor.
During the daytime, natural light projects a faint image of the maps onto the floor.
As evening comes, the projections of the maps become more crisp and clearly illuminated.
We hope the "Earth space" will be a place for thinking about the Earth, expanding upon the time in which humanity has already contemplated the Earth.

This is the office interior design for ECD (Earth Centered Design Laboratory), a new company established by TBWA HAKUHODO. From design to completion, environmental considerations were thoroughly considered, reusing building materials and furniture from existing offices, and for those that could not be reused, an "industrial waste manifest" was thoroughly managed to achieve 100% reuse, making this an extremely environmentally conscious construction project. Under these conditions, the spatial design was created with an "Earth Centered" concept, to encourage consideration of the Earth.
"Earth Room" / Maps from ancient times to today (crystals of human thoughts about the Earth) are printed and arranged on the table top.
"THE EARTH TABLE no1-15" / The light from the lighting above the table passes through the map on the glass top and is reflected on the floor.
"Records of generated material quantities" are created to maximize reuse. "Industrial waste manifests" are thoroughly managed to achieve 100% reuse.

「THE EARTH TABLE no1-15」/
