The exhibition title, “Lush Life,” is also the name of a song composed by Billy Strayhorn in 1961. That same year, John Coltrane released an album of the same name, and “Lush Life” has long been performed by musicians as a jazz standard. In jazz slang, the phrase is used not in the sense of a life of abundance, but to mean “a drunkard’s life” or “days steeped in drink.” A lyrical jazz ballad performed over the decades, “Lush Life” is also a poetic expression with the power to evoke various memories, scenes, and emotional states.

Since showing for the first time in his solo presentation, “Cheerfully optimistic about the future” (ICA Milano, 2021), Anastassiades has continued to explore the harmony between organic bamboo materials and lighting technology. These lights are entirely handcrafted, utilizing Kyoto-grown shiratake and moso bamboo as the support structures. They feature metallic components made from low-melting-point pewter and linen thread knots inspired by Icelandic fishermen's technique. Accentuating the inherent flexibility and beautiful nodes of the bamboo, the minimalist forms cast a soft light that creates gentle, serene shadows throughout the space.
The show runs until Saturday, July 4. For further information, please visit the link in bio.

Having welcomed twins in 2024, Arakawa-Nash translates their personal experience as an artist and as a queer individual to explore the diverse forms family can take in contemporary society, weaving together historical and social perspectives into a cohesive body of work. The exhibition invites visitors to collectively envision the futures awaiting babies born today, and to reflect on the world they will inherit. Structured as an interactive installation, the work encourages participants to engage actively and directly with it.
Taking full advantage of the Japan Pavilion's distinctive circulatory layout, the exhibition binds together space and body, sound and memory into a unified environment, with 208 baby dolls dispersed across the interior and the surrounding outdoor spaces. Carrying the dolls as they move through the Pavilion, visitors are invited to engage with themes of care, labor, and identity as questions that are at once poetic and universal.
Spanning across poetry, video, textiles, and AI, the exhibition brings together personal memory and collective experience in a single space. It represents a deepening of Arakawa-Nash's longstanding commitment to collaborative practice, with a multinational, cross-disciplinary team participating both as organizations and as individuals — lending the artwork a richly layered complexity.

The sculptures, which Oue has continued to produce in dialogue with the paintings, are cast in plaster or cement from clay molds, with the traces of his contact preserved directly in their forms. The new sculptures in this exhibition were inspired by a bout of chilblains and the traditional Japanese remedy of rubbing in an ointment made from horse fat. Reversing the usual sequence, in which the active compounds of the oil sink through the skin to improve circulation, Oue makes tubular forms from which oil paint seeps out, in a metaphor for the horse-fat ointment drawing the blood vessels outward. The result is a new approach that ties back to the notion of “territory.” The tubular forms and the mediating oil also resonate with the paintings, evoking not only blood vessels but the vascular bundles and rhizomes of plants with visceral force, as though severed parts of the artist’s body had begun to multiply of their own accord.
This exhibition runs through Sunday, June 28. For further information, please visit the link in bio.

At the start, the sun is roughly 0.5° above the horizon. The atmosphere filters out the “cool” blue and violet light, leaving the warm yellow and gold tones. As it sinks further, the path of light through the air increases significantly. The atmosphere now scatters away the greens and yellows, leaving only the warmest part of the spectrum. By the time only the top sliver is visible, the light is passing through the maximum amount of air. Red light has the longest wavelength, meaning it is the only color capable of traveling that long distance to your eyes without being scattered.

As the first exhibition in 2026, the current show focuses on the theme of “feeling” in the age of AI. It includes works by Hiroshi Hamaya, Naoya Hatakeyama, Eikoh Hosoe, Yutaka Takanashi, and Erika Yoshino. Echoing Bruce Lee’s famous remark, “Don’t think. Feel.”, the exhibition considers the growing presence of AI in contemporary society and the increasing scrutiny of what distinguishes human capabilities from those of machines. Through the works on view, it explores uniquely human forms of cognition and communication, including synesthetic perception, emotional sensitivity, empathy, and the imaginative potential embedded in culture and art.
This exhibition features works by Yutaka Takanashi, from his “Tokyoites” and “Tokyoites 1978-1983” series. Takanashi captured improvised snapshots of Tokyo’s urban landscape and its inhabitants during the turbulent decades of rapid economic growth from the 1960s through the 1980s. A reflected image of one figure appearing on the back of another seen through glass; people walking through the interiors of concrete buildings that seem almost otherworldly—through such images, Takanashi sought to move beyond photography as mere documentation. His works reveal abstracted visual impressions embedded within the documentary image itself, creating a multilayered photographic language that intertwines documentation and abstraction.
The exhibition runs until Sunday, June 21. For further information, please visit the link in bio.
Feel.」
