I’m on day 6 in this picture and so far so good. Area has scabbed over and crack in certain places. Slight tingling sometimes which would suggest that the skin underneath is healing. Can’t wait for the full reveal!

#microblading #ombrebrows #confidence #empoweringwomen #empower
10 years ago, following the birth of my second child, I started seeing a decrease in the thickness of my brows. I tried various topical treatments but nothing worked. Over a period of about 2 years I lost my brows entirely. During this time I went to see a well known trichologist and was diagnosed with alopecia areata.
I was absolutely devastated. Having worked in the beauty industry for so long, physical appearance was important to me. How could I possibly continue with this line of work? My confidence took a huge dent as I became increasingly conscious of my unnatural looking pencilled brows which would fade or disappear during the course of the day. I’d feel even worse when friends and family asked me what I’d done to my brows. I began to hide away and avoid going out whenever possible.
Then one day I discovered microblading. It was lifesaver for me. The first time I had it done I almost cried with joy. To say I was pleased is an understatement! I’d never have my natural brows back but my micro bladed ones were the next best thing and gave me a new lease of life. I slowly resumed all my activities and life began to feel normal again. I no longer felt so self conscious when going out. I began to feel like me again!
I can speak from my own experience about eyebrow loss but, as a woman, can only begin to imagine how devastating it must be to undergo a mastectomy and reconstruction. Although microbladed /ombré brows and tattooed nipples on reconstructed breasts are never the same as what we once had, they are by far better than the alternative. Life can be challenging at times and we need to be able to deal with whatever is thrown at us and come out at the other end. Microblading/ombré shading can help us feel normal again. That’s no mean feat and should never be underrated.

In order to keep your New Year’s resolutions you need to create lasting change. Be clear about what you want to achieve - write down your goals and how you will achieve them.
Many resolutions fail because people search for quick fixes which have been poorly thought out - if you have several bad habits it’s not realistic to try and change things overnight. For example, working out every day and going on a crash diet will definitely make you lose weight but is not sustainable.
It’s not enough to acknowledge that you want change. You need to decide if the pain of not changing things outweighs the pain of changing it. If you haven’t managed to process this then you won’t be able to commit to a decision and won’t stick to your resolution.
Think long term and try and slowly introduce habits which you can both enjoy and maintain on a regular basis. For example if you want to lose weight and eat more healthily you could start with simple manageable steps in the first week such as eating more fruit/vegetables and drinking more water before moving onto the next steps. People often find it easier to do this with a friend for encouragement.
Once you’ve prepared yourself and made a conscious decision to replace old habits with new habits you will have more willpower and be more likely to stick to your resolutions.

With the onset of the festive season, and diaries full of parties and socialising, for many this can mean too much alcohol and sugar and not enough sleep. Unfortunately these can all play havoc with our skin leaving it dull, dry and sometimes blotchy.
Here are my skin survival tips:
✔️ Remove your makeup before the end of the day to prevent clogged pores
✔️ Apply nourishing, hydrating products on your skin to protect the barrier and prevent moisture loss
✔️ Exfoliate using an acid toner to brighten the skin
✔️ Watch your alcohol intake. This is dehydrating and often lead to high colouring. Consider opting for an alcohol free drink instead
✔️ Stay hydrated - sounds obvious, but you need drink lots of water
✔️ Watch your sugary snack intake and try and opt for a piece of fruit instead
✔️ Switch to a plant based diet in the lead up and on the days in between parties
✔️ Get your beauty sleep!

With school holidays and Christmas fast approaching many of you will be feeling overwhelmed and filled with dread at the prospect of doing all of things us busy mums need to do.
Here are some of the methods I use to minimise the stress of what can be a very challenging time for many:
✔️ Accept imperfection - things don’t always live up to our expectations and we can end up feeling upset and disappointed. Better to just go with the flow!
✔️ Change your response towards others - if you find yourself in an emotionally charged situation, you can’t change how others behave but you can change your response towards them. Take a few deep breaths and either say nothing or walk away for while to diffuse the situation.
✔️ Practice self-care: this could be in the form of exercising, eating well, sleeping enough: these will make you feel more positive and relaxed during a stressful time.
✔️ Plan something to look forward to: such as seeing a friend.
✔️ Delegate! It’s your holiday too.
What are your ways of ensuring you have a stress free break?

I’m a firm believer that beauty comes from the inside out. In addition to using the correct skin products tailored to our skin’s needs, beautiful, glowing skin starts with what we eat.
One of my favourite food groups are nuts and seeds as these are so convenient for us to incorporate into our daily routines, and have so many benefits to both our skin and general health.
All nuts and seeds have something special to offer your skin.
💫 They are packed with protein, vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, selenium and omega 3 and 6 that help you achieve glowing, smoother looking skin.
💫 Great as a snack on their own, sprinkled onto salads, onto cereal, or added smoothies.
A daily handful of nuts in your diet will leave your skin glowing!
What’s your favourite way to incorporate nuts into your diet?

Here’s the second part of my winter skincare routine. To counteract the change in weather from summer to winter you need to switch to more hydrating, comforting and moisturising products. Here are some of my favourites:
hydrating cleanser and facial moisturising lotion
skin cleanser
high strength vit C & squalane oil
grape water

The effects of the winter and central heating can play havoc with your skin and leave it looking dull, uneven, dry and dehydrated. Just as we change our wardrobes according to the seasons, we need to change our skincare to counteract the harsh winter conditions. Time to step up your skincare and switch to more gentle, hydrating & moisturising products!
Products I’ve used are as follows:
cleansing balm
cream cleanse
pha toner
retinol 3TR
skin food light
