Many years ago, when I think back, I had mostly okay combos, sometimes a great combo and yes, a bad one also here and there. Every year it changes, sometimes the small gear feels the easiest, sometimes the big gear, it’s so complex. The only ones who get it all 100% are the top PWA guys, and not even they have it all at a 100%. It’s just endless tuning.
It took me long to learn how true comfort feels on the water. It’s when you stop fighting your gear and you almost go on auto pilot. That’s the moments you also are the fastest.
All these thoughts came up yesterday when I was out there on the 100WT and 5.8 Oxygen. It’s ridiculous but somehow someway, this combo has it. It’s specifically this combo. If I take the 6.7 Oxygen on the 100, it’s not the same easiness. If I put the 6.7 on the 115, yes, then I have it again.
I really would like to understand why it sometimes clicks and why sometimes not. All I can say is if you know someone who has magic combos, try it and if you find one for yourself, keep it. You can make a loooot happening with tuning, but in this case for example, I tuned nothing. This sport really is rocket science after all, especially the freerace & racing side…🤣🤙🏽
