2016: the pros & cons.
Cons:
Starting over in Dubai (technically late 2015, but 2016 is when it really began). Closing a company I built in Cairo and rebuilding my life from scratch. Working part-time as a reporter while searching for something more solid. A year that tested me mentally, physically, and emotionally, strange illnesses, exhaustion, and moments where I truly questioned my strength. Being dismissed and degraded in an interview simply because my aesthetic didn’t fit the “safe” mold; that moment broke something in me and made me doubt my place in the industry I once thrived in.
Pros:
Realizing that my vision didn’t need to shrink to fit. Understanding that growth sometimes looks like discomfort. Returning to the UAE felt like coming home (I was raised here before life took me to Egypt.) This year showed me that I do have potential in this country, even when it didn’t look like it. Ending the year ticking off a bucket-list moment I never thought possible back then: attending one of Coldplay’s first epic tours.
Some years don’t look successful on paper, but they quietly build the strongest versions of you ✨

As a multicultural kid, I know the struggle of not belonging. But imagine being fully from a place and still being told you don’t “look” like it.
Egyptian men don’t come in one shade, one face, or one aesthetic. Different on the outside, identical where it matters. Same values, same traditions, same culture. Same food, same Nile, same ancestors - yes, the Pharaohs. Same humor, same childhood games, same soft spot for their grandmas.
For this shoot, all five models are 100% Egyptian; no mixed parents, no exceptions, just to prove a simple point: the stereotype is outdated.
Egypt isn’t one look. Never was.
