what a dream it was to celebrate childhood joy surrounded by the most wonderful people! thank you all so much for coming and sharing your memories, it was so so sweet having you there and hearing your stories after working so hard on each and every single one of these pieces 💫

it’s been a year since opening night of ⛺️inner child (vol. 1)⛺️ at, and like all the silly mixtapes I used to make, I knew it needed (at least) a vol. 2 💫
as an artsy kid, the 90s and early 2000s were an extraordinary mix of dreaming up and experimenting with what my life would become, looking and touching and feeling and making as a way to bring into reality the sparkly magic I saw in the world 💖
throughout adulthood (and especially now in my 30s), that magic has kept me afloat, and I’ve carried it with me in a tiny little bottle, making sure it stayed close when life proved to be a bigger challenge than swimming in the ocean after watching Jaws with my dad at age five… I always felt the need to stay soft and curious despite all the sharp-toothed creatures out there, and care for the child I once was for all the imagination and joy she’s given me 🌟🖍️
like last year, this exhibition is just an excuse to celebrate our inner children with cake, good music and extremely yummy artworks (some are small and shiny, some are big and fuzzy, you gotta be there to see!), and reminisce about our memories and how they shaped us into the wild and wonderful beings we’ve become ✌🏻💕

after big clippy (introduced last year during my exhibition at ) and tiny clippy (specially made in teeny form for tiny festival), I had the honor of making these two hilarious midsize creatures for the one and only 💖
I've had these photos in a folder for months and only yesterday came across them while working on my next clippy iteration (y'all are not ready!!!!), and couldn't stop laughing at how chonky they are 😂

if you've ever met my girl or heard me talk about her, you know it takes less than a minute for her to warm up to strangers and start purring super loudly 😭💖
she ✨loves to love✨ and I think a lot of it comes from the endless amount of care she's been given since the day we saw her at a park and instantly fell in love 🌸
when we talk about love, we also talk about a cycle of care, and our ability to love others and ourselves comes from deep within this cycle, from feeling safe as part of a community that is always there for us and making sure they know we're always there for them 💞
all this to say that we don't exist alone and we don't love in a vacuum. much like my girl, my broken heart began to heal and expand when I found myself surrounded by other extraordinary beings (most of them women and kitties, hihi 🤭), and the bigger it grew, the more I learned about myself and the better I was able to love them all ❤️🩹
and on that note, here's a huuuuge thank you to my friends, old and new, who were happy to send me pics of their beautiful kitties for this silly project! it took me longer than expected to shoot, then reshoot, then edit it, but I'm just in love with how it turned out and I hope y'all enjoy seeing your babies here too 🥹💝

ever since my chonky love became one with the cosmos back in november 2022, creating things (and just existing as a sorta functional human) has been, to put it very very mildly, hard...
add to that (brace yourselves, it's gonna be an emoji list, haha):
📦 planning, while deep in the throes of grieving, and then eventually completing a long-awaited transatlantic move with the cat fam and seven incredibly heavy bags full of books, trinkets and memories (and a small piece of furniture that a dear friend gifted me years ago and I couldn't leave behind)
❤️🩹 saying goodbye (but talk to you soon and please come visit!) to the extraordinary group of friends who became my incredibly loving family and a true home to me
🎬 leaving behind my career in film, a decade-long art department adventure that devoured my life and allowed me to grow as an artist and a human, dream bigger than I could've possibly imagined and find some of the most amazing people ever to exist
📓 and then jumping head first into academia, a place I've always love dearly but hadn't been back to since film school in my early twenties (for reference, I'm now happily in my thirties)
...and you get a perfect storm of depression, anxiety and exhaustion, a complete loss of purpose and a profound longing for my parents, who left this earth far too soon and can no longer hold me through it all; at the same time, there's a whole lot of excitement, the sense of having accomplished what I had set out to do (and more!), and this wonderful feeling of finally being home in many ways 🌸
all that to say that without my Senny and our ten years of big-spoon-chubby-spoon love, none of this would exist. and I truly mean that, cause my boy saved my life more times than I can count, and then fought hard to stay here as some of my big dreams were starting to come true... so it’s only fair that he becomes the face of my art journey from now on, and what a cute face that is 💘
thank you all for your kindness throughout these past couple years, and for sharing your cat stories and making this place so very special to me. I can't wait to show you everything I've been cooking up around here ✨
