But actually the reason why I post this image today is because people keep asking how I captured this first dance. So let me explain it…
First of all it’s important to analyse the light in the venue. Ask for white light because pink or blue is so terrible during the first dance.
Ask the closest family and friend to make a circle for an amazing background. The father, the brother and even the grandmother of the bride is in the back of this image. Great family picture, don’t you think?
Ask the couple if they have prepared anything for their first dance. Will it be a slow or a choreography?
Choose a direction to photograph. I put myself in front of the dj booth and decided to photograph with the venue on the background. I used the lights of the booth to highlight the couple and put a backlight in someone hands behind the couple.
Wait for the perfect moment to take the image. Be ready, but also be patient.
In one way it’s a lucky image, but in the other way I considered so many things… the light, the people, the atmosphere, the camera settings, the perfect timing. I’m not an expert at all, but it’s just a reminder to trust your instincts, your knowledge and to do what feels good.
