I try and do my best and show up 💯. That one unmade bed will snowball into a life of unmade beds. If you know what I mean.

Are you obsessed? Maybe it’s an escape. Maybe not. I think it’s good to evaluate why we do anything. Healthy habit or otherwise.

Chasing waterfalls and sunrises. One of my favourite places. Tired but worth it. See you again soon!

South Asians are born with higher body fat % and less lean muscle mass.

It’s not a myth — it’s in our genetics. 🧬⁣

Research shows South Asians have up to 5–6% more body fat at the same BMI as other ethnic groups, and carry less skeletal muscle even from childhood.⁣

That means strength training isn’t optional… it’s essential. 🏋🏽⁣

We don’t just gain fat faster — we’re predisposed to store more visceral fat (the dangerous kind) and develop insulin resistance earlier.⁣

Cardio alone won’t cut it. ✋🏽⁣
Strength is our medicine.⁣
Muscle is our protection.⁣

If you’re South Asian and not lifting weights…
It’s time to change that.⁣

Tag a friend who needs to hear this. 🔥💪🏽

“Skinny fat”, “weak”, “unathletic”. You hear something enough times you will start to believe it. Stereotypes run abundant in the fitness community.

Indians and Punjabis seem to believe they can’t excel at athletics or have amazing physiques because of their genetics. Well maybe it’s not your genetics but your

- Shitty nutrition
- Excessive alcohol consumption
- Lack of discipline
- Shitty mindset
- Lack of sleep from partying

Or, more importantly, it might be because

- you lack education
- you have no role models or good coaches
- you are trapped in comparison and misconceptions
- you believe the media and misinformation

Genetics indeed play a significant role in determining certain aspects of fitness potential, including muscle fiber composition, metabolism, body type, and even susceptibility to certain injuries. However, the extent to which genetics influence overall fitness potential is often misunderstood and exaggerated.

Here’s why your genetics aren’t holding you back:

1. **Adaptability**: Regardless of genetic predispositions, consistent training and proper nutrition can stimulate muscle growth and strength gains.

2. **Progressive Overload**: The principle of progressive overload—gradually increasing the demands placed on your muscles—applies universally. By consistently challenging your muscles with increasing resistance or volume, you can elicit growth and strength improvements, regardless of genetic factors.

3. **Nutrition and Recovery**: Regardless of genetic predispositions, fueling your body with the right nutrients and allowing sufficient time for rest and recovery are essential for muscle repair and growth.

4. **Mindset and Consistency**: Your mindset and consistency are powerful determinants of success in your fitness journey.

Embrace the journey, stay focused on your goals, and trust in your ability to overcome obstacles along the way. Your dedication and perseverance will propel you toward the strength and physique you aspire to achieve! 💥💪

I started jiu jitsu exactly ten years ago in November of 2013. I dreamt of what every white belt dreams of, getting a black belt. November 25, 2023, today, I fulfilled that dream 🖤

Jiu jitsu has taught me a lot about life, through its ups and downs, and about myself. I am so happy I get to train and do what I love and I’m grateful for the amazing friends I’ve made along the way. There’s just way too many people who have impacted me to even list.

Thank you and for being amazing coaches and for being an integral part of this journey. I am super grateful for your support and leadership.

Also, I don’t see alot of girls like me in the sport. Being a Punjabi Sikh woman in the jiu jitsu community is super empowering. I hope more girls like me will pick up the sport / martial art, because it is definitely life changing.

🖤🖤🖤

I’ve always been a lanky little kid. Skinny, no muscle mass, probably a little unhealthy and awkward. I went through a phase in university where I barely ate (poor student budget) and went to the gym for way too long and ran around campus. I turned into a skeleton. I definitely wast getting stronger.

There’s a lot of mixed messaging around what your body should look like - get thick, lose fat, gain a booty, be lean, lose weight. All these things can be at odds with each other.

My advice, get enough calories to sustain your workouts. Focus on protein. Lift heavy and get strong. Cuz I definitely can’t change my limb proportions. I will always look long and lanky. So embrace your strengths and focus on just getting as strong as you can. When you do that you will appreciate what your body can do for you.
