But years of gloss paint had filled the grooves, softened the edges and hidden the original craftsmanship.
Sometimes the difference is in the details 👌
24 hours with Kling Strip later and it finally looks like part of the original door again.
Makes me wonder how many original features are hiding underneath paint in old houses.
Here’s the method I’ve been using to apply Kling Strip to spindles.
It’s much less messy (and easier, and quicker!) than trying to spread it onto each spindle individually in my experience.

So you can imagine my fury when I realised that there were patches on the fireplace that would not, for love or money, allow the cast iron polish to adhere to it.
Not really sure what the issue is, or how to solve it and I don’t think I can settle for the patchiness long term and may have to repaint black at some point, but for now it’s a good deal better than the pink
