Strife has been one of my favorite bands for 34 years, ever since I stumbled upon the "My Fire Burns On..." EP with that bright blue paper cover at the old In Your Ear Records in Providence in 1992. Back in the 90s, it was always hit or miss when buying 7"s. You had to check out what label it was on, what bands they thanked, and what the photos were like in the insert. I bought it, brought it home, and was smacked in the face with some of the best hardcore music ever created. Instant fan and I've been a fan ever since.
I've been fortunate to have seen these guys many times. They came out to RI, MA, and CT regularly in the 1990s. I was even lucky enough to play a show with them in CA when I was drumming for Daltonic and we went on a US tour in 1994. These guys have been kicking out some of the best hardcore music ever for over three decades. So awesome. And so much fun to photograph.

Strife headlined another great matinee in Providence with Fool’s Game, Wreckage, Can’t Lose and Step First. They came east for a weekend of shows that also included shows in Syracuse and Portland. THE Jay Pepito was playing second guitar with them for this run of shows.
I can’t quite recall when or where I first met the guys in Strife. It was probably 30+ years ago through a Middlesex Community College show or Mike Hartsfield back in the early 90’s. As we all get older, it is great to catch up with old friends that you rarely see in person. They have always been a blast to photograph and feel like a cheat code when it comes to getting energetic images.
