Day 1: Stellenbosch + Franschhoek
After a 16 hour flight and a good nights rest, we were ready to take on the Cape winelands, just an hour drive from Capetown.
Known for its Dutch influence, the white buildings and rolling hills were quite the backdrop for a coursed lunch at Le Petite Ferme with wine pairings and a leisurely walk through both towns.
The downtown of Stellenbosch is the cutest and Franschhoek had the best farmers market full of original art, spice tastings and donuts!
Must do’s:
✔️ Hire a driver
✔️ Eat everything in sight!
✔️ Leisurely walks through both towns
Avoid:
❌ High crime areas off highway / township
❌ Do not let anyone talk to you at an ATM
❌ Touching the ostriches!

I’m sure after time in 20 degree weather with snow and ice, I’ll be wishing I was on top of the fortress Masada overlooking the Dead Sea. Am I right!?!? 🤣
Masada is an ancient fortress in southern Israel’s Judean Desert. It's on a massive plateau overlooking the Dead Sea. A cable car and a long, winding path climb up to the fortifications, built around 30 B.C. Among the ruins are King Herod's Palace, which sprawls over 3 rock terraces, and a Roman-style bathhouse with mosaic floors.
After the fall of Jerusalem in the year AD 70, the defenders of Masada continued to hold out, and in AD 72, the Romans decided to overcome this last pocket of resistance by a siege. Can you imagine sitting on top of the fortress watching the Romans climb to get you?
It’s a must see with a beautiful view of the Dead Sea.
