In aanloop naar Het Systeem Festival gingen we langs in zijn studio in Amsterdam voor een gesprek over zijn muzikale reis, de machines die zijn sound hebben gevormd en waarom hij na al die jaren nog altijd vooruit blijft kijken. Ter gelegenheid van dit jubileum brengt Steve zijn eerste volledige album in twintig jaar uit via Dekmantel. Daarnaast maakt hij stap voor stap zijn volledige back catalogue opnieuw beschikbaar via geremasterde reissues op Bandcamp.
De eerste release in die reeks is Son Of Norma, oorspronkelijk uitgebracht in 1994 onder het alias Norma G en opgedragen aan zijn moeder, Norma Griffith. In ons gesprek vertelt Steve over het remasteren van deze plaat en waarom het opnieuw uitbrengen ervan niet alleen een terugkeer naar zijn catalogus is, maar ook een eerbetoon aan haar.
Daarnaast spraken we over zijn diepe fascinatie voor drumcomputers en synthesizers uit de jaren 80, het kopen van zijn eerste TR-808 met geld van zijn krantenwijk en hoe die vroege invloeden nog altijd doorklinken in de muziek die hij vandaag maakt.
