The Avani campus was designed by Stapati as an extension of the landscape it inhabits.

Following the natural contours of the site, the architecture responds to terrain, climate, movement, and the everyday experience of learning. From shaded circulation and open transitional spaces to compressed earth blocks and minimal intervention into the land, the campus was envisioned as a place where design education is shaped not just inside classrooms, but through the spaces students move through every day.

NIRAVA AYURVEDA HOLISTIC CENTRE
A landscape shaped by tradition and care

Located in Chingoli, Alappuzha, Kerala, the Nirava Ayurveda Holistic Centre by Stapati extends the Krishnendu Ayurveda Hospital, bringing together hospitality and wellness within a setting shaped by its natural context. Spread across approximately 21,000 sq. ft., the project is planned in close alignment with the existing landscape.

The master plan is organized into two volumes—a villa block with twelve guest rooms and a spa block defined by a sweeping curved form. Both are carefully positioned to retain mature trees, allowing the architecture to adapt to the site rather than dominate it.

The spa block is articulated with vertical timber fins that filter daylight, creating soft, controlled lighting suited for therapy spaces. In contrast, the villas are more open, with each room extending into private sit-outs overlooking the gardens, strengthening the connection to the outdoors.

Materiality remains rooted in the local context. Laterite, timber, and handcrafted elements are paired with a restrained contemporary palette. Interiors feature textured surfaces, teak-toned joinery, and louvered shutters, complemented by cane furniture and soft finishes. Exposed concrete ceilings and kadappa flooring maintain a minimal and consistent language.

Bathrooms incorporate framed views and operable shutters, balancing openness with privacy. Movement is guided through covered walkways, cobblestone paths, and gentle ramps connecting the built volumes.

The project is defined by clarity and restraint, where spatial planning, material, and landscape come together to create a cohesive and grounded environment.

An adaptive reuse project in Wayanad, quietly taking shape within an old structure, holding on to memory while finding a new rhythm.
Brine, originally conceived in our studio as On the House, emerged through a process of making as much as design.
The glass block envelope was not a singular gesture but the result of multiple iterations and structural negotiations, developed closely with the ingenuity of B.L. Manjunath and brought to life through prototyping with Vinton.

What began as an idea of a light, permeable skin gradually evolved through testing, detailing, and constant refinement. The process drawings and mock-ups trace this journey, where each decision responded to structure, light, and constructability.

At its core, the project remained anchored to memory. The original walls were not treated as remnants, but as the primary narrative, held intact through the entire transformation. Around this, the glass block envelope wraps with restraint and precision, never overpowering, always revealing.

The result is a quiet dialogue between past and present, where the weight of the old house remains legible, and the new intervention simply frames it.

Brine is an exercise in adaptive reuse, shaped by restraint rather than addition.
An existing house, rich in spatial memory, is retained and revealed. The removal of the slab opens the volume to light and air, transforming a series of enclosed rooms into a porous, courtyard-like space.

The intervention remains minimal. The original fabric stays legible through its walls, textures, and proportions, while a glass block volume wraps the structure, diffusing light and quietly organizing new functions.

Originally imagined in our studio as On the House, a simple idea of a glass box gently sitting over an old home, the project evolved along the way and eventually opened its doors as Brine.

NURA | Suspended in the entrance volume is a sculptural installation crafted from reclaimed lantana, a material often considered invasive. Twisting gracefully across the ceiling in a double helix form inspired by the structure of DNA, the piece blurs the boundaries between art, science and environmentally conscious approach, signifying the centre’s deeper engagement with the body and nature.

NURA reimagines what a medical facility can be, transforming an old school building into a
space of calm and care. A perforated metal screen wraps the façade, lending the structure a contemporary and sensitively crafted identity.
We chose to retain and repurpose the structure, reinforcing an environmentally conscious approach while honouring the site’s history. The setting, unlike dense urban centres, offered generous open land, an opportunity to bring nature to the forefront of the design.
