We had a blast on ’ Peekaboo Slot Canyon ATV Tour! It takes you deep into southern Utah’s red rock backcountry before hiking into a narrow, winding slot canyon (100 ft high!). It’s one of their signature experiences—and for good reason.

We’re in our early 40s, and for a long time we followed the natural progression.
Work hard. Buy a home. Dream about something bigger… more space, more rooms, more stuff.
But somewhere along the way, we realized the thing we were craving wasn’t more — it was freedom.
So last year, we packed up.
We downsized hard. Let go of a TON of stuff.
For a year we started renting our condo intermittently and sharing a mortgage with my Mom, to drastically SAVE. That choice helped us buy Big Red outright.
What we gained wasn’t square footage — it was time.
Time outside. Time together. Quiet mornings. Dirt roads. Slow coffee. A summer that felt like it stretched on forever.
No—we didn’t quite our jobs. We’ve luckily worked out intermittent times that we can be be remote.
We’re still rooted, and we’re excited to be home in San Diego for the winter. Soaking up time with family.
And very soon, we’ll be rolling into an RV park by the beach — not because we’re escaping life, but because this is the life we want to live right now. And yes, we’ll be renting our condo to save for aaallll the summer experiences 💛.
We’re no experts.
But we don’t think we’ll ever look back and say, “I wish we hadn’t downsized.”

As some of you know, we’ve spent the last 8+ months renting our condo and living at my mom’s to save up for our next step. We weren’t exactly sure where that path would lead, but we decided to take a leap into ‘part-time’ RV life!
Currently—Our home base (and jobs) are still in San Diego, but Big Red will be our gateway to the outdoors and a slower, more intentional way of traveling.
Fun story 😳—just a couple days ago we spotted this truck camper combo and immediately put in an offer. Yesterday, we took a one-way flight to one of our favorite states—Arizona, to pick her up! ✈️
Truth be told, we have no idea where this path is leading us, but we’re excited—and maybe a little nervous!

PS— How wild is this? —the BIGGEST truck camper rally in the country,, is taking place this weekend! It just happens to be on our way home, so we’re making a stop to camp, learn the ropes, and get our feet wet!
☝️Disclosure: We’ve also worked hard to make a fun side business, and it’s helped support our travel passion. That said, prior to, we Airbnb’d our 2nd bedroom to pay for 3 months in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia & Malaysia 🤩—experiences are possible when prioritized, right?
5 WAYS we PRIORITIZE TRAVEL:
MEAL PLANNING + COOKING
▫️Plan meals ahead for the week to remove waste.
▫️Pack lunches & snacks (this has been easy for us since we primarily work from home).
▫️Decrease meat - we’re vegetarian and it’s saved a ton— by incorporating more veggies, beans, and legumes, it’s possible to considerably cut your grocery bill. —
▫️💰✔️✔️✔️ Cook at home instead of dinning out—In 2023 we averaged $60/month eating out… we’re not giving up taco shop date night anytime soon ✌️.
TRANSPORTATION
▫️Use public transportation if possible. In San Diego ours is minimal, so we decided to sell a vehicle and carpool, walk, or bike.
💰 Removing a vehicle saved a ton on insurance, gas, and payments!
ENTERTAINMENT
▫️Enjoy game & movie nights at home.
INVEST in QUALITY
▫️We’ve found it’s cheaper to buy something once, and to only buy things we’ll really use. Our splurge is typically quality outdoor gear, and we’re ok with that because it gets us outside 👍.
CUT UNNECESSARY EXPENSES
▫️Cancel unused subscriptions.
▫️Brew coffee (and tea 🙋🏻♀️) at home! This one adds up! Imagine—$70 month is $960 a year— EXACTLY what we just spent on 2 flights to Europe!
YES, it all sounds like common sense but the trick is putting changes into action 👏.

🚲 You’ll find the most epic road biking trails. Definitely returning and bringing or renting bikes!

✌️It’s SO close to Yellowstone National Park. Make sure to visit both!

🍕There’s an AMAZING (homemade) pizza place at Jackson lake. Find ‘Leek’s Pizza’, 😋. Sit outside and enjoy the view! I’d share a pic but we devoured it after a long hike 😂.

⛺️ Last but not least - We really enjoyed the tent cabins at Colter Bay. They’re super fun to share with friends & fam. And while it’s NOT glamping— the bunk beds are shockingly comfy, bathrooms clean, and you’ll enjoy staying IN the park! Peep enjoying the hammock 😂.
Note: you must bring your own sleeping bag or bedding (hammock not included).
