Balancing Indian Meal - Episode 1

Our Indian meals have known to be predominantly carbs driven.. but when you plan a few little things it’s not all that difficult to balance it out. I am starting this new series where I show you how I plan my meals with my macros requirements..

Sharing a common dal chawal meal which we all love to a macro friendly gut friendly meal

On my plate
Peas pulao, dal makhani(without lot of butter or cream), julienned carrots, and tofu stir fry

For the dal makhani

Instant Pot Method (All Together)

Step 1: Sauté
1. Sauté mode – Normal
2. Add oil (+ butter if using)
3. Add cumin seeds & bay leaf
4. Add onions → sauté till light golden
5. Add ginger-garlic → sauté 30 sec
6. Add tomato puree + all spices + salt
7. Cook 5–7 mins until thick & glossy (prevents burn)

Step 2: Pressure Cook (Everything Together)
1. Add soaked dal + rajma
2. Add hot water (3½–4 cups) — scrape bottom well
3. Cancel sauté
4. Pressure Cook High – 35 minutes
5. Natural pressure release 15–20 mins

This longer cook replaces the separate boiling step

Step 3: Slow Finish (Optional but Recommended)
1. Open lid, stir well
2. Lightly mash dal with spoon
3. Switch to Sauté – LOW or Slow Cook – LOW
4. Cook uncovered 20–30 mins, stirring occasionally

Step 4: Creamy Finish
• I added 1/2 tub of finely ground cottage cheese
• Add kasuri methi
• Simmer 5–10 mins
• Adjust salt & water

Healthier Macros (per serving, no cream/butter)
• Calories: ~220–240 kcal
• Protein: ~15 g
• Fiber: ~10 g

This overall plate has over 35gm of protein, 10-12 gm of fibre and yet filling without the actual heaviness of this dal which we usually make

Simple, comforting and macro/gut friendly 👍🏼

What’s the next food combo you want to see here in this series? Comment down below and I will try to make it!

First video of the year so wanted to come here and have a honest conversation.

Sometimes we think that we need to start on a perfect day with everything aligned but life is not like that.. If you are looking for consistency in your fitness journey this year then start small, start now and most importantly have patience and trust the process..

It’s very easy to give up with anything that comes our way.. but the key is to show up no matter what.. that has been my biggest learning in 2025!

Hope this helps someone out there!

Real talk | no sugarcoating | fitness journey | life long journey | show up | consistency is key
This year wasn’t loud success or constant wins.
It was showing up even when I didn’t feel ready.
Some months I crushed my goals, some months I just survived. And honestly… that counts too.
Ending 2025 with a full heart and so much gratitude for how far I’ve come. ✨

For the months that healed me.
For every goal achieved and every moment that reminded me to slow down.
Thank you, 2025 — you were exactly what I needed. 🤍

Here’s a little recap 🥰

• January — Started even when I was not feeling like it
• February — Stayed consistent
• March — First small win, participated in battle cancer event for a great cause
• April — Learned to stick with my consistency in a way it suits me
• May — Chose myself in ways I never thought of before
• June — Did the hard thing, my first 10K
• July — Showed up again, hit another 8K
• August — Growth I didn’t notice, my first box jump in 8 years
• September — Trusted the process lead to squats close to 90kg and hip thrust of 100kg
• October — smashed my first ever Tryka and holding the medal was like a dream
• November — Forced to slow down because of my ankle injury, had to give up my Hyrox dream, world felt shattered
• December — Still showed up after 6 weeks of rehab. Proud of myself. Got recognised in my gym for “Coach’s Award” for my consistency and not giving up attitude.. This was the real crown in 2025 than the other 4 medals I won! If not for the beautiful community and the constant support of my coach, mentor Emily this wouldn’t have been possible

Here’s to another beautiful year of new experiences, new learnings and most importantly consistently sticking through all highs and lows of it 💪🏼

⭐️ I get to see places most tourists don’t
Hotel gyms, local studios, empty streets on the way there — underrated travel moments.

⭐️ It’s a solo adventure inside the bigger one
A tiny trip within the trip — just me, my playlist, zero opinions.

⭐️ It helps me romanticize the ordinary
Same squats, new country. Same running but new exotic locations..Somehow magical.

⭐️ It’s playful consistency, not pressure
I’m not chasing progress — I’m just keeping the vibe.

⭐️ It keeps me connected to myself, no noise or chaos in my head
One hour where I’m not making any decision, no time constraints, no pressure just me being me

I don’t believe in “shoulds” on holiday.

Some days are for movement.
Some days are for slow mornings, extra food, and doing nothing.

Working out isn’t my personality — it’s just one of the ways I stay connected to myself, even somewhere new.

No guilt either way.
No rules to follow.
Just choosing what makes the trip feel good

I want to thank me for believing in myself even when nothing made sense
I want to thank me for showing up on the days I didn’t feel like it.
I want to thank me for pushing through the days that were heavy, quiet, and hard.
For choosing progress over comfort.
For staying when it would’ve been easier to disappear.

This didn’t happen overnight.
But I’m still here — and that counts.

When you keep wondering what side to make for idlies and your YouTube is constantly feeding you with recommendations you got to cave in, right?

This famous Madurai thanni chutney and poondu chutney!! Undoubtedly the most delicious version of coconut chutney. I don’t make coconut chutneys often because no one in my house is a fan but this was loved by everyone today 😄

A simple recipe for you to try next time you wanna pair it with Suda Suda idlies…
#maduraithannichutney - 1/4 cup coconut, 1 cup pottukadalai(fried gram dhal), 1/2 shallots, 2 garlic cloves, lots of green chillies how much ever you can handle 😅, curry leaves, tamarind, salt. Add all this a mixer jar and grind it to a chutney consistency. Then add 1-2 cups of water to the chutney. It should be of thinner consistency. Now for tempering, heat sesame oil in a pan, mustard seeds, once they splutter add sliced shallots, few dry red chillies, curry leaves, hing. Add the tempering to the chutney.

Pour this chutney on top of the idlies to your hearts content and #kolapiadichufy 😇😇

For the #garlichutneyrecipe add garlic cloves of a whole garlic, dry red chillies to your taste, tamarind, hing and salt. Grind it to a smooth consistency and add basic mustard seeds and urad dal tempering. And it’s done!!

Suda Suda idly with this combo of chutneys is truly a 💣💣 of flavour.. please do try!!

Saturday brunch with Suda Suda ven Pongal and Kalyana gothsu.

This gothsu is very popularly served in marriages for morning tiffins or in janavasams..it’s super easy to make and makes the best pairing along with Pongal, idly or dosa.

Quick recipe

Heat oil in a pan, add the regular tempering of mustard seeds, ginger, slit green chilies, curry leaves and sauté well
Add in the shallots, tomatoes and hing. Sauté well
In goes salt, sambar powder and chopped brinjal. Give a good mix.
Add in the boiled Moong dhal and let it boil for 5-7 mins until the brinjal gets cooked
Add tamarind extract, adjust seasoning and add 1 tsp of jaggery to balance the taste. Adding jaggery is completely optional
Garnish with coriander leaves

Serve it with Pongal and summa kolapy adichufy 😂😂 You will be transported to heaven directly..🙏🏼

Also a quick tip when making Pongal, add about 1/4 cup of boiled milk to Pongal while mixing in the tempering. You will get the taste of Pongal served in temples 🥰 Do try this hack!!

Now what’s your favourite dish served in the weddings?

Vethakuzhambu is a constant in my household. Not one week passes by without making this delicious honey like tamarind based curry.

Although a number of veggies could be used to make this, shallots and garlic are merely enough to make this heavenly kuzhambu.

Quick recipe

Heat sesame oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad/Chana dal, 1/4 tsp methi seeds. 1 tsp of whole black pepper, few curry leaves. Then add generous shallots, garlic and 1 small tomato chopped. Sauté well. Now add hing, 4-5 tbsp of sambar powder, salt and let this cook in the hot oil for about 30 secs. Make sure the heat is in medium and keep stirring to avoid burning of spices. Then add thick tamarind extract of about 2 cups. Let this mixture boil in medium flame for 15 mins until you see oil separating. Finish off by adding a few fresh curry leaves if you have. Tastes very good with some simple poriyal(stir fries) and pappad

Edited - missed to add before. I have added 1tsp of jaggery at the end to balance all the flavours. This is an optional step but it always enhances the flavour so much.

💡 Tips
🧡 I never add rice flour to thicken this Kuzhambu. It’s always the reduction of the tamarind extract along with the spices
🧡 The balance of Kuzhambu powder and the tamarind extract is key to achieving the perfect taste. If your tamarind is very sour add more Kuzhambu powder
🧡 You could use veggies like drumstick, yellow pumpkin, brinjal or legumes like chickpeas in this Kuzhambu
🧡 Last but not the least always use sesame oil to make this Kuzhambu

This Kuzhambu is an all time favourite at my place. So give this version a try and let me know what you think.
Have a good day folks!!
