Il fatto che رَحِم raḥim, utero, رَحْمَة raḥma, misericordia, e أرحام arḥām, parentela, condividano la stessa radice dice molto, ovvero che la famiglia, nella lingua araba, non è solo un dato genealogico, ma uno spazio in cui la misericordia è fondativa.

In dialetto egiziano, quando qualcuno entra in casa mentre si sta mangiando, lo si invita a tavola con questa frase:
حَمَاتَك بِتِحِبَّك
“tua suocera ti vuole bene”
Il senso è che sei fortunato, sei arrivato proprio all’ora del pasto. Una fortuna come quella di avere una suocera che ti vuole bene.
In diverse culture la figura della suocera non viene vista di buon occhio, forse anche a causa di una gelosia velata. Comunque, personalmente devo ammettere che mia suocera, oltre ad essere una bravissima persona, mi vuole tanto bene e viceversa.
Dal punto di vista linguistico:
حَمَاة (ḥamāh) = suocera, dalla radice ح-م-و, la stessa da cui viene حَم (ḥam) = suocero.
بِتِحِبَّك (bitiḥibbak) = ti vuole bene, in dialetto egiziano il بـ iniziale è il prefisso del presente indicativo tipico dell’egiziano, assente in arabo standard.
Circolano diverse storie sull’origine di questa espressione, ma quante siano davvero attendibili è difficile dirlo.

Ormai fa parte della mia quotidianità: ci dedico tempo, energie e tanta passione. E anche se non è sempre facile, lo faccio con il sorriso, perché credo davvero che conoscere l’altro sia la chiave per abbattere ogni forma di paura e razzismo.

Vorrei che diventasse:

• un viaggio per chi non può partire,
• un romanzo per chi non ha tempo di leggere,
• una scuola per chi vuole imparare,
