This was a conversation on stage, built on the notes of Raag Mishra Kafi. In Indian classical music, jugalbandi is meant to be a beautiful exchange — where musicians listen, respond, and enjoy each other’s company through music.
But somewhere along the way, that spirit often gets lost. It turns into a competition, rather than a celebration.
I feel incredibly lucky that I’ve had the chance to experience the real essence of jugalbandi with Pratik Shrivastava — someone who’s been a friend, mentor, fellow musician, and an elder brother to me.
We’ve spent so much time together over the years, on stage and off, and this clip from our recent concert at NCPA Mumbai is just a small reflection of that bond.
Shot by my brother Adri Thakur from the audience’s perspective, the black-and-white mood somehow makes the colours of Raag Kafi stand out even more. Thank you for the wonderful photograph.
