2 weeks in paradise 🌴🥭🌊 #thailand
Today marks 2 years of living alcohol free! One of the better decisions I’ve made 😊 being clear-headed, feeling all of the feels and never ever waking up with a hangover absolutely rocks. I had started taking breaks from booze after Ella was born, because mom-ing and being hungover don’t go very well together, and those breaks got longer and longer but I wasn’t ready to fully commit until this day two years ago. I guess being out with friends and drinking alcohol symbolized to me that I was still the same — still young and cool and not at all changed by motherhood, and I was holding on to experiencing that for a minute just once in a while. The truth is though, I get excruciating hangovers even just after 2 glasses of wine and it just isn’t worth it to me anymore. Plus, it takes some time getting used to, but I do in fact still go out, dance, and have fun. I don’t even feel awkward, I just get tired a lot earlier 😉👵🏻
Another thing that has changed is that I find I live much more intentionally now. Decisions are weighed properly, how I spend my time and with whom, where I’m going with my life, career, relationships — it’s much less messy now and instead being intentionally crafted.
I don’t want to moralize or demonize alcohol here. It is harmful, but not everyone is being impacted by it the same way. For me personally, this is the way. Maybe it is for you too. I see more and more people hopping on the water wagon which is so great! Sober and sober-ish pals, feel free to reach out, would love to know who you are! 🤍

Ich bin neuerdings (life update!)

thank you 🌹
Sundays are for family 🤍
Had the best time road-tripping Albania with my sister/bestie last week. Beautiful country, delicious food, stunning mountains, crystal clear ocean.. I’ll be back for sure.

Ella wasn’t planned.

I thought long and hard about whether or not to terminate the pregnancy. I went to counseling, made an appointment for an abortion.

I decided against it in the end. It was MY CHOICE.

I decided to go ahead with the pregnancy and become a single mother because I knew I had family support and lived in a country with universal healthcare, guaranteed paid mat leave, free childcare.

I have always been pro-choice but I am FEROCIOUSLY pro-choice now that I am a parent. This is a responsibility that changes your life so much, it should never be forced onto anyone against their will.

My heart bleeds today for anyone with a uterus and no access to safe and legal abortion. For anyone who’s birth control has failed them. For victims of sexualized violence who will be forced to carry their abuser’s baby to term and possibly share custody with them. My heart bleeds for all unwanted babies who are prone to a childhood filled with anger, resentment, abuse, poverty, crime.

What a dark day for humanity.

Some photos I took in New York exactly 7 years ago that I stumbled upon again. The laws regarding street photography are different in the US than they are in Germany and I also think culturally it works a little different. I loved being able to experiment and shoot everyone and everything I saw - when someone realized I took their photo they would smile or even come up to me and ask me to email them their photo. I couldn’t stop thinking how different these situations would’ve panned out with grumpy berliners 😜
