During the exam, Dr. Jackson found a large laceration inside the mouth along with multiple broken bones. Considering the severity of the fall, this cat is extremely lucky. After receiving pain medication, the cat became much more comfortable and was doing surprisingly well.
Cases like this are a reminder of how important immediate veterinary care can be after any traumatic injury. Cats are very good at hiding pain, even when serious injuries are present.
Thankfully, Dr. Jackson expects this cat to make a full recovery. 🐾

During Tom’s examination, Dr. Jackson was able to feel a severe fracture and suspected that the injury may already be starting to heal crooked due to the amount of time that had passed. Radiographs confirmed a very serious fracture.
Cases like Tom’s can be extremely challenging because treatment decisions are not always simple. In some situations, amputation may be the best option to relieve pain and improve quality of life. However, if Tom undergoes an amputation, he will need to remain indoors permanently for his safety. Because of the swelling and the kitten’s condition, Dr. Jackson is concerned there may be a complication related to the recent spay surgery that could potentially require surgical correction. Careful assessment and close monitoring are extremely important in situations like these.
Young kittens are especially fragile because they can become dehydrated very quickly and their blood sugar can drop dangerously low if they do not eat frequently. To help stabilize the kitten, Dr. Jackson administered subcutaneous fluids and worked to encourage food intake to help prevent low blood sugar and further complications.
Cases like this remind us how important post-operative monitoring and early veterinary intervention can be after any surgical procedure.
