Tested the pH of the FENTY SKIN TOTAL CLEANS’R & the FENTY SKIN FAT WATER 🔬⁣
.⁣
💠 Total Cleans’r revealed a pH of 6.32⁣
(My preferred range is between 4.5-5.5, and I try not to use cleansers with a pH above 6) ⁣
&⁣
💠 Fat Water revealed a pH of 5.22
.⁣
Firstly, for those wondering about the shipping… My order was placed on July 29 (I signed up for early access), and I paid for the International DHL eCommerce (Duty & Tax Pre-Paid) shipping– which the website says takes 5-10 business days to deliver after the time of shipment. My order was shipped on August 2nd, and arrived today…so 12 days later. There’s lots going on in the world right now, so I was anticipating some delay. ⁣

In terms of the products themselves– so far my first impressions are mixed.⁣

Let’s start with the cleanser. I’m disappointed with the pH of 6.32. It’s not ideal.⁣
While I love the gel consistency of it, it does foam up quite considerable and I found it to be stubborn to rinse off. It’s also a little drying.⁣

I know that there's been a lot of criticism regarding the fragrance in this product– and I can understand why… the fragrance is super overwhelming. I can get onboard with a little fragrance (is it necessary? no. does it enhance your experience? yes it can) But this isn’t a little fragrance – it’s so potent that you’d think this was a body cleanser. The scent reminds me of the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. ⁣
I’m going to decant it into a pump dispenser and use it as a hand cleanser (lord knows I’ve been going through my share of hand cleansers over the last few months).⁣
Overall, I’d say you this cleanser is a definite pass 👎🏻⁣

Now, the Fat Water – this I am liking! Such an interesting formula. It kind of reminds me of the Fresh Kombucha Essence (which I love), but it has a little something extra to it. It’s definitely a little thicker than your standard essence. Absorbs nicely, and doesn’t leave your skin feeling tacky– but leaves it with a nice glow. It’s also fragranced, but nowhere near as potent as the cleanser. I can handle it and will keep using it to see how it goes.⁣

Have you tried anything from Fenty Skin yet? What did you think?
THE INKEY LIST - My First Impressions:⁣

🔸 SALICYLIC ACID CLEANSER: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Has a pH of 5.04. I like it & will definitely use it up. I have a few qualms with it, but I’ll elaborate in a separate post later this week. ⁣

🔸 SHEA OIL NOURISHING HAIR TREATMENT: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ I am always on the hunt for hair products which are free from silicones. Hair oils, in particular, are notorious for containing them. So I was pleased to come across this one. I’ve used it both on wet and dry hair. It’s lightweight and won’t leave your hair feeling greasy. There’s no added fragrance, but I love the natural scent of this. Can’t describe it…but it’s nostalgic– as it reminds me of my grandmother’s garden. Loses ½ a star for the pump. It’s not ideal for an oil product. Way too much dispenses from it, & you need to be really careful or it’ll squirt everywhere! I might decant it into a pipette-type bottle. ⁣

🔸 15% VITAMIN C AND EGF: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You know the saying, “You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your Prince”… Well this is how I feel about this Vitamin C. I seriously cannot fault it. It’s perfect. The texture – lightweight/watery and absorbs beautifully. Doesn’t leave a tacky feeling, & it layers nicely underneath my other products. I’ve only been using it for a week & have already noticed a brighter complexion.⁣

🔸 BRIGHTEN-i EYE CREAM: ½. I would only rate this ½ a star for the packaging. I liked the slanted metal applicator. Unfortunately, this cream caused me major redness & irritation after just a few days of use. (Swipe to see photo) My eyes have since healed once I discontinued using it. I got a few DMs from others who have experiences similar reactions to this. I wonder if it has something to do with the Mica in it? 🤔 Either way, if you have sensitive skin, I’d probably steer clear of this one. ⁣
(Note: I’ve also tried the CAFFEINE EYE SERUM in the past, it also irritated me– making my skin dry & flaky. You can find it somewhere in my ‘Empties’ Story Highlights)⁣

Overall, I think it’s fair to say that The Inkey List products will either be a Hit or a Miss. I would try more Inkey List products – especially as they’re so affordable!
Tested the pH of the CERAVE SA SMOOTHING CLEANSER 🔬⁣

Requested by:,,,,,, ⁣

💠 SA Smoothing Cleanser revealed a pH of 5.17 👍🏻⁣
(My preferred range is between 4.5-5.5, and I try not to use cleansers with a pH above 6) ⁣

There’s loads of hype around Cerave products at the moment… and FYI the hype is totally warranted. I first tried Cerave when they initially launched in the UK in 2018. I tested their Hydrating Cleanser and loved it (Search the hashtag #ssrphtest to see all my cleanser reviews).⁣
Well it’s safe to say that I love this one even more. I cannot fault it. It’s literally ticks all the boxes for me. ⁣

First, the texture - a light (thin) gel which lathers gently. It’s the perfect blend of ‘gentle cleanser’ and ‘effective cleanser’. My skin feels clean and soft – Doesn’t dry me out at all, and it’s completely fragrance-free.⁣

The best part? The price! It’s £12 for a generous 236ml bottle (with a pump dispenser!)⁣

It definitely has my stamp of approval. ☑️⁣

Have you tried it? What did you think?⁣

Tested the pH of the VERSED ‘WASH IT OUT’ GEL CLEANSER 🔬⁣
.⁣
💠 Wash It Out Gel Cleanser revealed a pH of 6.11 👎🏻⁣
(My preferred range is between 4.5-5.5, and I try not to use cleansers with a pH above 6) ⁣

Versed is a relatively new skincare brand that launched just over a year ago. I was interested in trying their cleanser and hadn’t tried any of their other products.⁣
Their prices are really affordable and that’s what caught my initial interest. (This 190ml bottle cost me £12)⁣

The cleanser has that gel texture which I love - producing a light foam when in contact with water. A little bit goes a long way, I found myself needing much less product than I would normally use. If not, I found it a tad bit drying. For that reason, I’d say it’s best suited to those with oily skin.⁣

It has an overwhelming mint fragrance when your open the bottle. Not surprisingly, it contain Peppermint Oil (7th on the ingredients list). ⁣
Peppermint oil can be an irritant for some and can also affect the integrity of your dermal barrier. (Parys, 1983) (Wilkinson & Beck, 1994) (Nair, 2001) It’s not to say that it would be irritating in a ‘wash-off’ product like a cleanser, but it’s certainly worth noting. ⁣

While I won’t be recommending this cleansers to others, I’m still very much interested in trying other products from their range!⁣
Have you tried anything from Versed? What would you recommend that I try next?⁣

⁣In support of Pride Month - I put together this pride flag using skincare & haircare products. 🏳️‍🌈⠀

To me, Pride is an opportunity for us to come together in solidarity and unity – celebrating the progress that’s been made in the LGBTQ+ community, and reinforcing EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL! 🙌🏻⠀

Join me in celebrating Pride on this platform by creating your own Skincare Pride Flag. Tag #SkincarePrideFlag which will allow everyone to see each other’s creations!⠀

Not limited to the Traditional Gay Pride Flag –There are a variety of identities within the LGBTQ+ community and thus many ways that people display their pride. (Swipe for a few more examples)⠀

I’m also going to use this opportunity to shout out one of my favourite people on instagram –. If you’re not already following Kyle, you are missing out on some of the best skincare content on IG. He works in the industry, seriously knows his stuff, and shares unbiased/honest reviews. AKA The Skinformation King 👑⠀

Love to all! ❤️
⁣May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month– and as we close off the month of May (How is it already June 1st tomorrow!?) I wanted to share some of the reasons why some people don’t wear SPF.⠀

I think it’s important to identify those reasons and be more cognizant of the excuses we might give ourselves in order to help mitigate them.☀️😎⠀

The following results are based on a survey conducted by. ⠀
This survey was conducted online within the United States by OnePoll from April 16, 2020 – April 21, 2020 among 2,000 Amercian adults aged 18 and older.⠀

While nearly half of the survey respondents (47%) say they follow a daily skin care routine, a whopping 71% say they do NOT use a sunscreen daily. ⠀

Reasons Adults Skip Daily Sunscreen Application⠀
(% of respondents):⠀

1. Don’t like how it feels (55%)⠀
2. Leaves a white cast (38%)⠀
3. Not planning to spend ‘too’ much time outside in the sun (33%)⠀
4. Don’t want to mess up their makeup (28%)⠀
5. Causes breakouts (24%)⠀

Can you relate to any of the above excuses? It’s certainly challenging to find a sunscreen formula that you enjoy using, that blends in nicely and doesn’t leave a white cast – but they do exist! So please keep trying. If you find one that’s great– share it with people! ⠀

Even if you’re not planning to spend ‘too’ much time in the sun… all that time adds up. Only going to be outside for 15 minutes to run an errand? Well that adds up to 91 hours of sun exposure per year. ⠀

Not to mention, UV rays can come in through the windows & clouds, so even if you're on the balcony on a cloudy day or working near a window, you're exposed!⠀

Don’t want to mess up your makeup? There are SPF powers and sprays that work great over makeup. Or check out IG Story where she shares how to apply cream SPF over makeup! It’s brilliant!⠀

Causes breakouts? Only if you’re not cleansing properly in the evenings. But that’ll cause breakouts regardless if you’re wearing SPF or not.⠀

What are your thoughts? And what other excuses have you heard as to why people skip SPF?⠀
#TextureTuesday + Product Review: Lip Scrub 👄

Here I am- digging into a fresh pot of the Lip Scrub Original.
.
(This is my second tub of this!) It’s a beautiful texture (as you can see) and is made up of sugar & coffee grinds for physical exfoliation, as well as macadamia oil & beeswax to nourish the lips.

What I love most about this lip scrub is the formula - it has the perfect ratio of sugar/coffee grinds and oils/beeswax. My problem with most lip scrubs is that they’re not oily enough- most are very dry and as a result…messy to use & not nourishing enough!
I’ve used some popular lip scrubs in the past (Lush Cosmetics lip scrubs, and Jeffree Star Cosmetics lip scrubs), but those contain too much sugar and not enough oils. When you try to use them, they don’t adhere to the lips properly and flake everywhere! The only way to use them is in the shower, if not, expect sugar everywhere!

The lip scrub doesn’t skimp on the oils and adheres to the lips really well, allowing you to exfoliate and buff your lips anytime/anywhere without worrying about getting messy. (Swipe to see photo!) The oils are super nourishing and leave your lips feeling plump and soft.

Oh, and the coffee aroma/flavour is intoxicatingly GOOD! On that note, if you don’t like the smell of coffee, then you won’t like this. I do believe they have other flavours though.

I got mine from for £9, but you can also get it from & other retailers.

Hope everyone is having a nice start to their week! 🙌🏻 👄👄👄
☀️ REVIEW: REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF30 Mattifying Broad Spectrum Face Sunscreen 🕶

If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know how much I love REN. They’re easily one of my Top 5 favourite brands. Which is why it really pains me to write this review… I was so excited when REN launched their mineral sun cream last year - it sounded perfect… 100% physical/mineral filter, reef-safe, silicone-free, etc. However, I was sorely disappointed after using it for a couple of months.

Firstly, it’s thick and very hard to blend in. It takes some time, but it does eventually absorb into the skin. (Forget this if you’re in a rush in the morning!)
It’s meant to be ‘mattifying’ (which it is to some degree), but if applying an adequate amount, it leaves my face feeling greasy, sticky, and unpleasant.

And then of course, there’s the awful white cast which is slightly noticeable in natural day light but even more so with flash photography. (Swipe to see Before and After photos, across different lighting)

It’s a real shame because the ingredients list ticks all my my boxes for a sun cream, however the formula left a lot to be desired…

Please tell me your favourite Mineral Suncreams in the comments below!
👩🏻‍🔬 Cleanser pH Tests🔬⁣

⚡️ #KindToSkin #MoisturizingFacialWash revealed a pH of 6.35⁣
Fragrance free and soothing, but disappointing pH (higher than expected). I’d pass on this one and gel the Simple Gel cleanser instead⁣

⚡️ Kind to Skin #RefreshingFacialWashGel revealed a pH of 5.88⁣
If you’re on a budget, this is not bad at all. A ‘simple’(no pun intended) gel cleanser, gentle and effective.⁣

⚡️ #CleansingMilk revealed a pH of 6.40⁣
Hated this. My skin didn’t feel clean, felt like a film on my face & also burned my eyes a bit.⁣

⚡️ #CleansingFoam revealed a pH of 5.43⁣
Doens’t “foam” up as much as the name suggests (and that’s a good thing). Smells like peppermint/tea tree. It was okay, but really overpriced.⁣

⚡️ revealed a pH of 3.75⁣
Not so sure about the effectiveness of the vitamin C in this, but a nice cleanser nonetheless⁣

⚡️ Cell Renewal Micro-resurfacing Cleanser revealed a pH of 4.00⁣
This product doubles as a face-mask, which is how I like to use it. A good exfoliating cleanser.⁣.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ #UltimateBlends Shampoo in Almond Crush - Recently, I’ve been on the hunt for an affordable drugstore shampoo. I’m trying to quit my expensive habit/love for Briogeo shampoo. So, I bought this… I must say, it’s not bad. It has a light almond scent, & leaves my hair feeling clean. Sometimes I do find it to be a bit harsh on my scalp (itchy/dry). Also, not all of the shampoos in this range are created equal. I recently bought the ‘Argan Oil’ one & hated it. It too was strongly perfumed… nauseatingly so- & irritated my scalp more than Almond crush. Interestingly, the formula/ingredients list differs across the Ultimate Blends range. Just one to watch out for.
.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ #SheaButter Shampoo - Similar to the above, I was trying to find an affordable shampoo to fall in love with. And similar again, this was just “okay”. & I found it to be too harsh sometimes.
.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #FarewellFrizz Leave-In Conditioning Spray. I use this on clean, towel-dried hair. My hair drinks it up and it helps me comb through tangles. I’ve repurchased this several times and I always have a bottle on-hand. I also love that it’s not greasy and doesn’t weigh my hair down once it’s dry. Smells lovely too.
.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #ScalpRevival Shampoo - I really liked this shampoo. I would consider purchasing a full-size of this and using it once/week, or when I need a clarifying shampoo after a couple of extra days of not washing my hair (you know, when your hair is full of dry shampoo and you feel you need a good clean) It has peppermint which provides a nice cooling effect on your scalp while washing. Loses a star due to price.
