El 11 de junio de 2002, #SystemOfADown lanzaba Aerials como el tercer y último sencillo del álbum Toxicity. El video musical fue dirigido por el propio Shavo Odadjian.
No hay un significado oficial de la canción, pero hay una explicación de por qué el protagonista del vídeo es un niño alien, en una entrevista de 2022 Shavo declaró lo siguiente:
"Daron Malakian escribió la canción Aerials. Pero en el video, ese soy yo en el video. Nunca he contado esto en una entrevista; les estoy dando algo: entonces ese pequeño niño [alienígena] soy yo. Nadie lo sabe. Siempre me he sentido alienado. Así que lo hice como un pequeño niño alienígena.
Hermano, en aquel entonces, me tomó semanas y mucho dinero en CGI [imágenes generadas por computadora] crear esa cara... hoy en día, es un filtro. ¿Correcto? En Snapchat. Todo el mundo dice: '¿Quién es ese pequeño extraterrestre?'. Yo digo: 'No lo voy a decir'. Pero ahora, han pasado tantos años, 20 años después, se los digo."
El rostro del niño es en realidad el de Shavo alterado con CGI.

El video musical muestra imágenes de la película Salt of the Earth de 1954, la cual narra la lucha de mineros mexicano-estadounidenses contra la explotación laboral, el racismo y la opresión institucional, basada en hechos reales.

I’m giving away a rare 1995 Roxy flyer signed by Serj Tankian, along with signed copies of my book Backstage Pass and other original Roxy memorabilia from my personal archive.
Back in 1995, System of a Down played their Memorial Day show at the Roxy. The place was packed with Armenian friends and family from Glendale, and it was the first time I ever saw them perform.
At the time, almost nobody in the Hollywood music scene took them seriously.
I did.
I told everyone they were going to be huge.
No one believed me.
I even tried to get them on the Roxy’s Monster Mosh show alongside my band Mind Heavy Mustard, but the Roxy turned it down.

Years later, after becoming Production Manager at the Roxy, I had Shavo sign a few photos from his birthday celebration at the club. Around that same time, Serj signed several original 1995 Roxy flyers that I had saved.
