I first met Greg James in 1991 at the 1st Annual Hollywood Inkslingers Ball at the Hollywood Palladium along with his brother Tennessee Dave, Rick Walters and Catfish Carl all standing together. All of which have all passed on now. They all helped and supported me ever since that day. Greg started by inviting me to visit Sunset Strip Tattoo, he said “bring your photo album”
Without hesitation I was there the day after the convention with album in hand. At the time it had only been 3 years since my apprenticeship and I had only seen Greg’s work in the Tattoo Magazine so it was a real big deal for me. Greg greeted me in the shop with love and hospitality from the moment I arrived. We talked for a while and after looking through my photos Greg smiled and thanked me for visiting and said “as soon as I hear anything I’ll let ya know” and sure enough I received a voicemail message “This is Creeper from and we are looking for a new black and grey artist. Call me back”
After I was hired Creeper later told me that he and Greg tattooed together 20 something years before during the 70‘s in East LA at Tattoo Heaven across from Tattooland on Whittier Boulevard and that Greg put a good word in for me. I will always be very grateful to Greg for all the support and knowledge over all these years. I am forever grateful.

*Fun fact👉 Greg used to do Blk & Grey East LA Style Tattoos in the 70’s unlike all the color full body Japanese style work that Greg became most famous for.
