In my opinion, the best acids for black and asian skin are acids with larger molecules such as lactic and Mandelic acid. These are more gentle which means less inflammation & irritation. It also means less risk of compromising the skin barrier. Less inflammation = less risk of hyperpigmentation & often better overall skin recovery.
If you’ve ever used strong acids like glycolic acid and wondered why your skin isn’t progressing the way you’d like or perhaps even declining, I’d recommend the low and slow approach. A low strength acid introduced slowly. I’ve personally seen the most success in black and Asian skin with this method.
