This painting was inspired by an earlier work of mine from 2013, bearing the same title, A Princess is Born. It was a watercolor on coffee-stained paper.
I’ve included the original image here because I find it fascinating to see how the same vision can evolve over time. I love them both for different reasons.
Over the years, my technique has changed, my understanding of painting has deepened, and my artistic, cultural, and emotional journey has shaped every brushstroke. Revisiting this image wasn’t about recreating the past, it was about allowing it to grow with me.
My greatest hope is that my paintings become quiet companions for the people who welcome them into their lives, bringing comfort, wonder, kindness, and a gentle reminder that there is still beauty worth protecting. If this painting can make someone’s everyday life feel a little warmer, a little lighter, or a little more magical, then it has fulfilled its purpose.

This painting began as a return to a much older piece I created over a decade ago in watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media on paper. Revisiting it today felt like reopening a forgotten story and allowing it to grow into something new.
At its center, a pink-haired girl gently holds a newborn piglet, the inspiration behind the title, A Princess Is Born. Around her gather familiar companions from my imaginary world: Poor Teddy, the half-skull bear who has appeared throughout many of my paintings; Penelope, the tiny unicorn fawn; a small pink octopus crowned with coral antlers; a little circus elephant; and above them all, a bird with a mended chest flying through the very detailed baroque room in the background.
To me, this painting is about the small mercies that quietly shape our lives, the gentle acts of care, compassion, and protection that often go unnoticed, yet leave the deepest mark. The newborn piglet cradled in the girl’s arms symbolizes a new beginning, something precious and vulnerable being welcomed into the world.
The characters surrounding her each carry their own imperfections, scars, and peculiarities, yet they exist together in harmony. Poor Teddy, Penelope, the little octopus, the circus elephant, and the stitched bird all represent different forms of resilience and tenderness. Rather than hiding what makes them fragile, they embrace it.
This painting is a reminder that kindness, empathy, and acceptance can be powerful acts of their own. Sometimes the smallest mercies are the ones that transform us the most.
I can’t wait to share the finished painting with you. It is currently making its journey to the United States.
