This month (January) we will be making hot mats using free motion quilting and ruler work! We will be joined by Mary Davis of! Mary will be giving an awesome presentation on free motion quilting and then after a small break we will move on to making our hot mats using our Beanie Rulers and free motion!

We meet every second Sunday at 9:30 AM Pacific Time. Some meeting consist of a ruler class, demo and sew along while others have special guests. Every second month we complete a fun project with using machine quilting rulers in a different way!

I use the BERNINA Q16 and check my tension on every bobbin using the tension gauge shown. I would rather take an extra couple of minutes to check than have to unpick because the tension was wrong.

I love to try new things and sewing with clear (in this case sparkly) vinyl. I had it in my head that it was going to be difficult to work with. Boy, was I wrong! The BERNINA #52 zigzag foot with the non-stick sole made it a breeze!

The one thing about vinyl is it is less forgiving if you make a mistake lol. The holes created if you have to rip out the stitching do not disappear like they do in fabric.

I am stitching this on my BERNINA B735 and for the quilting portion I used ruler foot #72S and our “Turkey” ruler (template).
