Machu Picchu was every bit as magical as we imagined—and more.
An early 4 a.m. start, multiple transfers, and a long day of travel… but every step was worth it the moment we saw those views. From the scenic train ride to finally walking through the ancient citadel, this experience is something that truly stays with you.
✨ Quick tips if Machu Picchu is on your list:
• Book tickets well in advance — they sell out fast
• Circuit 2 offers the iconic viewpoints + ruins
• Please carry passports. It’s mandatory.
• A guided tour (2–3 hrs) is absolutely worth it
• We looked at the weather prediction and choose 12:00pm slot. You can pick earlier too. Glad we had all clear skies.
• & are both reliable booking options - which includes complete package including bus and rail transportation, entrance tickets to machu pichu and private guide.
We chose to return to Cusco the same day. But you can also stay overnight in Aguas Calientes a day before and cover machu pichu early morning next day and return to Cusco.
This wasn’t just a destination — it was a moment we’ll never forget.

We kept day one intentionally slow to adjust to the altitude, and honestly, that made all the difference.
Looking back, staying in the Sacred Valley would’ve been a better choice—less commute and easier on body, but travel teaches you as you go, right?

1. Give yourself at least one to two days to acclimatize. Altitude sickness is very real, so don’t plan any strenuous activities in the first few days. We carried altitude sickness patches, used essential oils, and most importantly, kept sipping coca leaf tea throughout the day.
2. Travel to Peru if you’re looking for adventure.If you want a laid-back, slow vacation, this may not be the destination for you. Trip to machu pichu or any famous spots need you to take bus/train at 4am in the mornings. Be ready to walk—a lot. Carry a good walking shoes. Flexibility and adaptability are key, especially when traveling with kids.
3. Plan and book your travel well in advance.Machu Picchu tickets sell out quickly.And when traveling with kids, private transfers are far easier than group tours.
4. If possible, stay in Urubamba instead of Cusco. Cusco sits at about 3,800 meters, while Urubamba is lower at around 2,870 meters—which makes a noticeable difference, especially for kids. We stayed in Cusco, and honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it.
5. One thing that truly stood out was the kindness of the local people.Akil misplaced his phone, and I misplaced my handbag.After hours of panic, we were able to track down both—safe and intact. Thanks to our tour guide!
6. To truly enjoy Peru at a relaxed pace, plan at least ten days.We only had five, and it definitely felt rushed.And according to our tour guide, the best time to visit Cusco is between June and October.
7. Do not miss out on Amazon rainforest!! Add it to your itinerary for an increase experience! More details coming up in future reels.
