神戸三宮ウォーターフロントエリアのアリーナ北広場に、私が描いた動物たちのイラストがオブジェとして、本日3月5日より期間限定で登場しました。夏頃までいつでも御覧いただける予定です。
神戸市在住のイラストレーター、サタケシュンスケさん。 絵本や教材、教科書、そして神戸市の防災や子育てに関わるビジュアルまで。子どもや暮らしに近い領域で、絵を描き続けています。
その原点には、転校を重ねた子ども時代がありました。
環境が変わるたびに、教室の空気は少しよそよそしく、自分の居場所を探す時間があったといいます。
新しい教室で、うまく言葉が出てこない。 なにを話せばいいかわからない。そんなとき、絵を描くと、そこに人が集まってくれたのだそう。サタケさんにとって絵は、自己表現である前に、外の世界とつながるための手段でした。
いま、地域や子どもたちに関わる仕事を大切にしているのも、「暮らしの中で誰かとつながる」という感覚が、根底にあるからなのかもしれません。

・幼い頃に好きだった本
→ 『冒険図鑑』（福音館書店／文：さとうち藍 絵：松岡達英） 「この本さえあれば、生きていける」。子ども心にそう思わせてくれた一冊。天気の見分け方、野外でのごはんの作り方、危険なきのこのことまで。サバイブしていくための知恵が、分かりやすい絵とともに紹介されています。大人になって開いても、面白いなと思います。
・小・中学生の頃に心に残った本
→ 『ブッダ』（潮出版社／手塚治虫著）
父の本棚に置かれていて、気づけば手に取っていた漫画。
生きること、死ぬこと、幸せと不幸……子どもには大きすぎるテーマですが、物語の力で、いつの間にか自分の中に入ってくる。
のちに現実の悩みに出会ったとき、作中の人物たちが道しるべのように重なってきました。
・高校・大学時代に価値観を変えてくれた本
→ 『illustration file 2000』（玄光社/イラストレーション編集部著）
専門学校に入った年、教材の一冊として手渡されたイラストレーター年鑑。当時はSNSもなく、プロのイラストレーターに一気に出会える場がほとんどなかったからこそ、この一冊がまぶしかった。 「いつかここに載りたい」そう思い続けて、実際に掲載が叶ったことは、今も心の支えになっています。
・大人になってから何度も読み返す本
→ 『天才はあきらめた』（朝日新聞出版／山里亮太著）
実はお笑いが好きで。山里さんのファンでもあるのですが、彼がスターになるまでの嫉妬心も、かっこ悪さも、折れそうな瞬間も、ぜんぶ書いてくれているんです。
きれいごとだけではない言葉だからこそ、読むたびにグッとくる。 創作を続ける人の「芯」に火をつけてくれる本のような気がします。
