Spread across 5,000 sq ft, this penthouse project — The Hidden Doors — designed by Shruti Vyas Design, is part of a residential building in Rajkot which has the luxury of a private entrance foyer and lift access. As the penthouse was received in a raw state, it offered an opportunity to the design team to reimagine the spaces according to the client’s requirements. The owners, a young couple, wanted a contemporary and minimal apartment that would be timeless, clutter-free and maintenance-friendly.
An articulation of Scandinavian and zen principles can be seen throughout the penthouse, with an insertion of curvatures and soft edges, wherever possible. All the furniture pieces besides the junction where two walls meet, or where the ceiling meets the wall, are rounded off to lend a soft, elegant touch to the space. Further, all the doors and door frames are concealed cleverly by panels and design details to give a seamless look to the penthouse. The colour palette is muted neutrals, based on the Japandi theme which runs throughout the areas. Soft pastels tones for furnishing layered with neutrals and wood tones (oak veneer) give a sense of tranquillity.
