１度目のアイスランドではこの街の直前で旅を終えることになって、何かを欲するようにずっと気にかけていた場所、その分とにかく歩いた。カメラ3台ぶら下げて歩いていい距離ではないほど歩いた。だから結構好きな風景です。

東京からつづくツアーの帯同もおわりてっちゃんを見送ったあと寄り道のようなルートをたどってガソリンスタンドに寄った。運転中には開けない窓もてっちゃんと長く過ごしたせいか、まぁと思いたって少しだけ窓を開けたまま走ってみた。岩手の匂いもすきだ。優しい。二度とない時間を過ごすとはこのことかもしれないといつも東北旅で思う、そしてそれを思い出す。もう少し花巻に滞在してこころを充電して過ごします。

第11回は、アイスランド旅の記録をライフワークとする、フォトグラファーの福森翔一。選んだ最高の旅先は、深夜のラジオをきっかけに15年間憧れを募らせ、写真集制作のためだけに50日間かけて沿岸部を一周したアイスランドです。
「フォトグラファーとして憧れの地に足を踏み入れる以上、誰も知らないアイスランドの日常を残したいという使命感に近いものを感じていました」。
マシュマロのような羊、人口100人ほどの街にも佇む教会。壮大な自然はもちろん、旅人という立場で牧歌的な日常にふれることもかけがえのない経験になる。誰も切り取ることのなかった遥か街の日常を記録する、福森翔一のスペシャルインタビューです。

フォトグラファー 鹿児島出身、東京都在住。師匠に2年間師事し、独立。東京を拠点とし、商業的な写真を生業としながら、ライフワークとしてアイスランド旅をフィルムにて撮り下ろした写真集を制作。2024年11月、写真集『遥か街を切る』を出版。全国10か所を写真展にて巡回中。

「掲載に選んだ写真たちは、1枚ずつでは本当にアイスランドの風景なのかわからないものが多いかもしれませんが、それらが淡々と並ぶことで不思議とアイスランドらしさが見えてくる気がしています。この写真はアイスランド東部、エイイルススタジルからネスコイプスタズルを繋ぐ国道92号線。広大な草原で羊の親子を見つけました」。

「アイスランドに惹かれたのは深夜のラジオがきっかけです。ふと漏れてきたアイスランドの話に耳を傾けていました。風、羊、白夜、吐息、そんな優しい単語たちがパーソナリティーの声色も相まって僕の身体中に染み渡り、ラジオが終わる朝方にはアイスランドに今すぐ向かいたいと思い込みにも近い感覚に。なんとなく、そして漠然と氷の大地が広がる場所というイメージがあるだけだったその国に、羊の呼吸、わずかな人の温度があるということを知り、どうしても撮ってみたいという思いを積み重ねるように溜め込んできました。

人の生活がある小さな街にただの日常と僕が居るだけ、その特別感は簡単に味わうことのできない時間だったと思っています。これほどまでに隅から隅まで撮ってみたいと思える土地はここだけです。写真集制作のためだけにこの土地に足を踏み入れ、風の吹くままに50日間の日々を進めることができたからこそ、とても良い旅となりました」

「レイキャビクの空港から車で20分、お気に入りの宿Lighthouse Innの窓から見た風景。部屋の中には僅かに灯りがあり、人の生活や温度も感じられる1枚となりました。レイキャネス半島にあるLighthouse Innは今回の旅で唯一、事前に決めていた1日目の宿で、窓からの眺めは心が救われるような風景でした。1年前の旅でもこの宿に泊まり、薄暗いオレンジの灯りと白と黒の2頭のアイスランドホース、ゆっくり暗くなる水平線を見ました。それから1年後、アイスランドに到着した日に、同じ窓を開けて2頭のアイスランドホースを見つけたとき、胸がぎゅっとなったことをよく覚えています」。福森翔一
