1) It is one of the hardest visas in the world so as a traveller you will feel victorious stepping into this unexplored territory.
2) The capital city of Ashgabat holds multiple world records for its marble buildings; it is also known as the city of white marble
3) Only white or light color cars are seen on the roads
4) Internet is heavily restricted; mobile roaming hardly works
5) You will see massive dramatic monuments all over the city, yet very few people and tourists
6) The country has rich cultural heritage that can be experienced firsthand by visiting it
7) Iconic Door to Hell; a burning gas crater in the middle of the desert that has been on fire for decades
8) Extremely clean and silent streets
9) Low international influence - you will not see any US food chains/cafe’s
There are a lot of unique facts that I am yet to unveil; that would be Turkmenistan 2.0 at some point in future 🤞

60 countries later, I am still the person who gets excited with every bag I pack for every trip. I take Turkmenistan as a big win for 2025 — a country I’ve wanted to explore ever since I first saw the “Doorway to Hell” in a documentary.
Turkmenistan is much more than that fiery crater… you can only understand when you travel there.
From the empty roads to the marble cities, everything feels like a secret✨

A country like no other - hidden, guarded and rarely explored. A country where getting a visa feels like cracking a secret code.
“The Door to Hell” also known as “Darvaza Gas Crater” shown in this reel was the reason Turkmenistan made my list - A pit of fire in the middle of nowhere, still burning since 1971!!
We managed to camp a few metres away from this crater, it was magical to say the least with the moon above and the fire below.
No one knows when this fire would stop, it could be tomorrow or take another few decades.
Going back into history of this crater - It was an accidental blaze sparked by Soviet geologists drilling for gas, the ground collapsed into a crater and they set it on fire to prevent gas leaks. It has been burning since then 🔥

Route Taken - Lemosho 8 days
Difficulty Level - I can write a book on how the 8 days on this route transitions from one day to another. Each day brings its own set of thrilling moments but what’s the joy in completing a trek that is not difficult. Looking back at the summit night will always bring me goosebumps; that was the hardest thing I have ever done.
I will end this post with one statement to remember for anyone embarking on this life changing trek - remember the story of the Tortoise and the Hare that we all learnt as kids; be a tortoise on this mountain. You are guaranteed to be more successful by doing things slowly and steadily than by acting quickly and carelessly on the trail. Pole- Pole (slowly- slowly) is what you will hear all the time echoing on the trails and thats what got me through without facing any altitude sickness.

Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC) which was once a dream is now a reality.
I embarked on a trek of my lifetime on 16 March 2022; little did I know that a week from there, I would be holding my Indian Flag and breathing the same air as some of the most renowned mountaineers in the world.
About the EBC trek - You are essentially trekking long number of hours for 8-12 days at a significantly high altitude. I undertook the trek knowing well that my overly pampered self from Dubai may not be able to accept it. Someone like me who gets into my car to pick groceries from a store few steps away, I have never walked such long hours with a daypack and 2 litres supply of drinking water that should last me till the next tea house fills it for me.
As gross as it sounds, I showered once during the 8 days trek; compare this with the luxury of free flowing hot water in your bathrooms.
For someone like me who changes clothes every few hours when travelling, I sustained 8 days in pretty much same winter layers. Sleeping bag was my newly found love on this trek. I felt like a cocoon every night slipping into my bag and zipping myself away from the chill. Pain relievers like Deep Heat and Volini were my new moisturizers.
Despite all the hardships, what I gained is immense inner & outer strength and that courage to build upon this experience and get to the next level trek. I gained lifelong relationships with my trail mates who will remain my friends for life as they have seen me in my highs and lows (literally)!! Think of the moment you see EBC in front of you and your tears don’t stop rolling down the cheeks and this group comes and hugs you real tight 🌸
If you think being outdoors make you happy then you have just got to push your limits and see what you can achieve, your body can truly surprise you. It’s best to do this trek with a professional company having a good success record. I cannot thank enough. Many posts, stories and behind the scene experiences coming up.
