August was the last month of my 20s and wow what a way to go out. I got engaged to my partner of nearly 10 years. I made my return to to watch my fav perform. And I spent the month feeling in love with the city I live in & the people I get to share it with, and inspired by all the art around me.
Speaking of art, I know itβs been a while since Iβve been here. I was funneling all my creative energy into my full-time job and struggling to find leftover energy to make art for myself. Last Wednesday, Texas governor Greg Abbott signed into law Senate Bill 8, an extreme anti-abortion bill that bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, which is before many women even realize theyβre pregnant (six weeks pregnant looks like your period being only two weeks late).
This bill takes effect September 1, 2021. According to the abortion fund org, βSB8 is unconstitutional and will likely be challenged in the courts. No 6-week ban on abortion has actually been implemented because it is unconstitutional.β
This law is an attack on our bodies, an attack on our healthcare, and an attack on our rights.
