🏔️551m of elevation gain. Because of the length of this trail, the elevation is quite gradual.
⏳This will take most people anywhere from 4.5-6.5 hours depending on the pace of your group and how long of a break you take at the teahouse.
☕️Teahouse posted hours are 9-4, but we watched them close at 3:15 when we were there, so it might be wise to arrive early. It’s much less busy than its Lake Agnes counterpart, I can only assume because the trail is twice as long. Be sure to bring cash with you, otherwise $4 extra will be added to your bill to use credit card.
👦The length makes this one a bit far for my 5-year-old at the moment, but there is nothing technical about this hike. So if your kid(s) can handle the distance and overall elevation, then they can do it. I can’t wait to take my son to get a treat at the teahouse when he is a bit older!
❄️Once you reach the end of the lake along the shoreline trail, you’ll see it becomes avalanche terrain (clearly signed). This trail is not to be travelled through winter and the spring avalanche seasons. The teahouse is closing this year on Oct 13.
💰You do need a National Parks Pass to visit Banff National Park. And parking at the lake is $36.75/day/vehicle. You can also take the shuttle from Lake Louise ski resort (look online for available time slots).
⚠️Please always Leave No Trace when visiting our parks. That means doing your own research, staying on the trail, taking all garbage with you, respecting wildlife and being kind and courteous to others.

💦Standing at over 300m tall this waterfall is Canada’s second tallest.
🥾1.6km (out and back) trail with only 37m of elevation gain.
☀️🌬Hot and buggy at the trailhead but cold and windy at the base of the falls (a windbreaker is a good idea)
🚗1hr10min drive from the town of Banff (featuring a couple very tight switch backs up the mountain, not for the faint of heart)
📅 Popular spot. Arrive early and on a weekday if you want to avoid some of the crowds and get a parking spot in the actual parking lot…
⏳Allow 45 minutes to an hour to explore the trail.
⚠️Exercise caution and keep littles close. The rocks are slippery and should not be ventured out on. People fall in and DIE. I also don’t recommend going up beside the waterfall with little ones, the view is plenty lovely from the base.

🚗1hr and 15 minutes from NW Calgary
🅿️Kananaskis Conservation Parking Pass required for all visitors to the park. Please purchase online ahead of time as there is no cell service at the lake.
🐻As shown in the video, this is bear country. Practice bear safety by going for walks in groups and carry bear spray. Clean up after yourself and don’t leave any food or scented items unattended.
🚤Full boat launch (motor boats allowed)
💦The water is COLD, please always wear a life jacket and recreate responsibly.

Lake Louise is visible from other summits in the area, but these 3 are the best to actually see the lake in my opinion.

📍Cascades of Time Garden (aka Cascade Gardens)
🚗There is a small parking lot that was very full. We walked from downtown and across the river instead and it only took a few minutes.
🏔️Enjoy nonstop mountain views. Don’t miss the classic picture above Banff Ave looking toward Cascade mountain.
⌛️1hr is loads of time to wander through.
👦Kid friendly for sure. But not stroller or wheelchair accessible as there are stairs present throughout.
🥵Lots of shady spots and benches to have a break from the heat on a hot day. We ate lunch in one of the gazebos.
🆓No admission required as it is completely free, but you do need to have a Parks Pass to visit Banff.
This is a great add on to any daytrip or vacation to Banff that won’t break your budget!

I know in Part 1 I’ve just told you how to leave the trail to go to the bathroom…BUT the goal is to not trample the plants, destroy animal habitats, crush their food sources and cause further erosion and widening of the trails.
If at all possible, when off the trail, step on rocks instead of plants and do not ever contribute to the braiding of trails, by taking shortcuts, or trying to avoid mud, etc.
We want to leave these areas pristine for future generations to enjoy.

🕝Only 25 minutes from the town of Banff itself.
🥾5.5km “out and back” with 270m of elevation gain.
💦2 large waterfalls are the main attraction, but an additional 5 are visible along the trail.
🪨Stunning walkways suspending you along the canyon wall.
🔥Tips:
🕝Go early to avoid the crowds.
📆Try visiting on a weekday.
🌧️Or choose a day with less ideal weather. (This was a rainy day and it was perfect)
🚗If you end up having to park at the 2nd parking lot, add an extra kilometre total to the distance mentioned above (500m there and back).
❄️Open year round and the packed snow gets very slippery, wear ice cleats.
⚠️The snow builds up on the walkway as winter goes on so the railings will not always be at an appropriate height. Exercise caution.

📍Marble Canyon Trail - 1.5km out and back (allow 1 hour)
📍Numa Falls Day Use - 0.6km out and back trail to the waterfall view. Loads of picnic tables here making it the perfect lunch spot.
📍Paint Pots Trail - 2.1km out and back trail (allow 1hr 15mins)
If you aren’t planning to do this as a daytrip, consider overnighting in Radium Hot Springs so you can soak in the hot springs and plan a second day of hiking along Hwy 93 on the way back!
