The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an internationally recognised programme that encourages young people to challenge themselves through adventure and independent decision making. During the two-day expedition, students navigated using paper maps, planned their own routes, cooked nutritious meals and camped overnight 🏕
Apart from transport to the starting point, the expedition was largely student-led - just as it will be during their final assessed expedition in a few weeks’ time.
We were impressed by their preparation, motivation, and positive attitude throughout the expedition, and even the campsite staff praised the group for being considerate and respectful campers.
After returning, students took part in a debrief to identify areas for improvement and better prepare for their final expedition. Great job everyone 👏

Students saw real-time mission control in action and viewed live images of astronauts aboard the International Space Station, gaining a fascinating insight into how international teams work together in space exploration.
Across three hands-on workshops, they stepped into the role of young engineers: designing and launching water rockets to test aerodynamics (discovering that a quarter-filled bottle achieved the highest and longest flight time of over 7 seconds), and exploring magnetic forces by constructing models that demonstrated levitation and zero gravity principles.
Throughout the visit, students showed outstanding curiosity, teamwork, and exemplary behaviour, earning many compliments from staff at the centre. A very successful day!

Back in the classroom, those pizzas became a great learning tool, helping students understand fractions by cutting them into halves and then quarters. The excitement was real, but so was the kids’ patience, as everyone waited until the end of the lesson to finally eat a well-deserved slice 🍕
At St.George’s, we believe in finding innovative ways to teach and are not afraid to question established methods, ensuring our education remains dynamic, exciting, and supportive of every student.

During the Easter break, our Year 5 student Annasophie dedicated some time to reflect on the art of friendship by creating two insightful posters.
At this age, children start to navigate deeper social connections, making it the perfect time to understand how to behave with others and how to protect the bonds they value. Annasophie designed a creative acronym for the word friendship and paired it with a visual guide on what to do if you want to be a kind friend. She truly took the school’s values to heart, mentioning that “(her) teachers always say that our community is very important and it’s important to have good relationships.”
These beautiful posters will be displayed in the school’s halls so that everyone can be reminded how to be a great friend!
