Did I just come back only to make neurospicy miimiis? Yes. Yes, I did.

While I crawl back out of my cute abyss, I want to acknowledge that the world has seen and continues to witness war, loss, grief, and conflict. And while healing and coping isn’t linear, neither is our sexuality.

Shrex (that’s what we will be calling it now to not be banned and proudly profess my obsession for my fav swamp guy).. Shrex can especially feel different depending on our brains and experiences during these times. For neurodivergent folks, sensory sensitivities, stimming, communication (verbal and nonverbal) or other unique ways of connecting or disconnecting might shape intimacy. Meanwhile, neurotypical folks can also experience challenges with sensory processing overwhelmed by life’s pressures and may find it hard to be present or relaxed during sex, carrying emotional or mental load that impacts how they wish to connect or disconnect during sex.

Whether it’s sensory needs, emotional space or how we communicate consent and pleasure — every nervous system needs time to buffer and is worthy of celebration!

Neurospice teaches something to all of us whether it’s about embracing our unique ways of experiencing the world, understanding the power of sensory needs, or showing us that connection doesn’t have to look or feel one way. It reminds us to slow down and honour different rhythms in experiencing our sexuality, beyond the usual scripts. 💜🐛

What’s the one thing you have learned from your own or someone else’s experience that has changed how you think about intimacy or connection? Love to hear your reflections (or maybe just say hi?) 💬
Talking about sex, sexuality, pleasure, and relationships is important and these conversations should happen more often to help us understand ourselves, others, and the diversity/commonality in perspectives. However, these discussions can sometimes potray sex and pleasure as mandatory elements for a fulfilling sexual life and relationship, creating what’s known as the sex imperative or pleasure imperative. This perspective mandates sex and pleasure as essentials for everyone, imposing an expectation to either provide or experience them.

People and partners want and do not want, engage and do not engage in sex for different reasons and purposes. As long as these needs and concerns are communicated and consensual, not engaging in sex is just as valid and important as engaging in it!

The more conversations I have had with people in the last year discussing sex and sexual behaviours, the more I hear “Oh, that’s weird” and that’s what this post is all about I guess. Embracing the “that’s weird” and exploring what we find some sexual behaviours more unsettling than the others.

It’s 4 year SLOversary and let me start by declaring that I am alive and burning an alarming amount of sage for my burnout student brain (kidding, i don’t have the energy to burn anything).

Excusez moi for being very absent this year, but I am having an amazing (and exhausting) journey as a sexology student, navigating my life in a new country, and networking and figuring out what the future holds for me.

Despite being absent here, I still had the opportunity to contribute towards some really cool stuff:
> I got to co-author a chapter for the new Sexuality and Intimacy: An Occupational Therapy Approach textbook edited by Dr Ellis and Dr Ungco (which is a must read).
> I had the incredible honour of contributing (in my little ways) towards AOTA’s resource for OTs role in transgender and gender diverse individuals care.
> I recently started volunteering with the advocacy sub-committee of Society for Australian Sexologists and hopefully, I have more cool things to do and learn.
> And wrote little wisdom nuggets about sex for magazines (linked in my bio).

All in all, it was not a very “virtually social” year for me, but I religiously updated the resource section on my website. So if you are starting out on your journey or wish to learn more, there is something for everyone (link in bio). In the meantime, I appreciate you all for patiently waiting and engaging with this space. I promise it will be over for everyone once I find my creative personality and motivation back. Until then, keep at it my littul sexuality nerds x

September is Sexual Health Month!

For the last two years, I have always found ways to make this month resourceful. I did not have time this year to plan anything special, but I realized I'm special. And this year's specialness is dedicated to Occupational Therapy & Occupational Sciences.

All of us are trying so fucking hard to make sense of this profession and advance it in the best way possible while constantly being ignored, discredited, and confused with other professions.

So as we begin this month I've decided to highlight us. All of us. And all the work we are trying to do.

ANNOUNCEMENT TIME 🙈
I started working on a project when I was in one of the lowest moments of my life and today, a year later, I'm delighted to finally share a little piece of my heart (and brain) with this world.

IT'S BOOK LAUNCH DAY CUTIES 🥺❤️
*internal screaming*

𝑆𝑒𝑥𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑒 is a creative workbook designed to help you access and cultivate a pleasure routine on your terms.

This book is somatic, meaning you learn by doing and that brings awareness to the body. This self-paced reflective guide helps you to identify barriers (internal, external, and relational) that limit you from experiencing your true pleasure potential and encourages you to set an action plan for your wellness journey.

Some distinctive features of the book that I'm proud of are:

~ SELF-PACED REFLECTIVE GUIDE
Practical, sensory-based activities mixed with reflective questions to experience pleasure on your terms

~ STRIVING FOR INCLUSIVITY
Does not assume your abilities, identities, relationship styles, and/or orientations

~ BEGINNER FRIENDLY
Simplifying pleasure and intimacy for newbies, beginners, and curious souls

Well then, are you ready to take your pleasure seriously?

The book is currently available at in both paperback and Kindle editions. You can find all the purchase links mentioned in my bio. If you are someone who has already purchased it, please don't forget to leave book reviews and help me learn better.

PS: I'm always thankful for the love this community has always offered in helping me dream big and allowing me to help you in my tiny, little ways.
