After last night’s heavy rainfall, the Pantanal felt noticeably cooler this morning.
My clothes were still damp from the storm, but there was no time to waste—we set off at 6am.
For the first thirty minutes, the river was quiet.
Nothing stirred.
Then we received a radio call: two jaguars had been spotted in Corixo Negro—a mother with one normal eye and one striking blue eye, and her young son. They were resting beneath a tree.
We arrived around 9:30am and joined the cluster of 10–15 small boats already waiting.
Everyone hoped the pair would come down to drink from the river.
We waited… and waited… and waited.
They shifted positions a few times but stayed in the shade under the tree, never venturing out.
Even so, it was a privilege to see them up close—such magnificent animals, full of quiet power.
Afterwards we returned for lunch, a short rest, and prepared for the evening safari.

What an incredible start to the day.
We began by tracking the same jaguar we’d seen yesterday—the one fitted with a telemetry collar. He was moving along the riverbank, clearly searching for food. Eventually, he slipped into a small bay surrounded by tall, dense bushes. He disappeared into one, and only seconds later emerged with a dead caiman in his jaws. He’d found the remains of another jaguar’s kill, and now it was his.
Watching him drag that massive caiman around—completely unwilling to loosen his grip even for a moment—was extraordinary.
This is the Pantanal in its purest form: survival of the strongest.
After a few minutes he hauled the carcass into the thick bush and vanished. We waited, hoping he might reappear, but he was gone.
Then came a radio call: another jaguar sighting.
We raced across the river and found a female walking along the riverbank, also in search of food. Suddenly she plunged into a small bush, and after a brief roar, she emerged with a huge anaconda wrapped around her face. She had found her meal.
She dragged her prize into a nearby thicket and took her time. All of us waited patiently, hoping she’d reappear with the snake in her mouth—but she had other plans. Still, witnessing that moment live was unbelievable.
We headed back to the boat for lunch, a shower, and a rest before the sunset safari.
Afternoon
The second part of the day was just as memorable. We travelled through several canals but had no luck finding jaguars.
The sky grew darker, and strong winds swept in. We decided to call it an early night as heavy rain began to fall.
But on our way back—soaked to the bone—we spotted a jaguar feeding. He lay in the green grass enjoying his caiman, unfazed by the storm.
Photographing wildlife in the rain is… something else.
The equipment holds up far better than your clothing. And once you’re drenched, you stop caring about being wet—you just want that extra photo.
What a spectacular end to the day.

Friday 17th October 2025.
The beginning of the brand new day.
I feel blessed to be in this place of the World.Its about nature and wildlife that always gives me boost in life.
We went again in search of jaguars.
We found one, just resting on top the tree branch.He looked so lazy and was so relaxing just watching him and enjoying this moments in time.After 20min he got up and started to walk next to shoreline in search of food.Of course, we all followed him in out individual boats and trying to be ahead of him.Its very important not to be in his way, so he will still feel free and wild.At two points, I was so close to him in my small aluminium boat, less then 10 meters away.It was great to be so close to him and to feel animal spirit.At the end, he went off to the bush and we continued our search for some other jaguars.
We found one inside the water.
Only, his head was out.
He was cooling off in the water.He didn’t want to get out of his “bed”, but I did get some very interesting head shoots through green grass leaves.
Very Interesting.
It reminded me of the time when I did that painting in charcoal while I was studying college in Ealing Broadway.That was 30 years ago.
Wooow.After relaxing lunch time, we head off again in the afternoon for some more searching time.
It was very nice second part of the day.
My driver gave me very adventure rally fast river cruise.I loved it.We saw few jaguars but nothing of huge importance.
The sun was setting fast and we decided to get back to our boat.
Just as we were going towards our boat, there was one jaguar just seating there on the river wall.He was looking to the other side.There were few capybaras on the other side.His dinner:).We come so close with a boat to him, around 5 meters from him.I was thinking he will jump inside our was amazing experience to be so close to the wild animal like that.I have taken so many his jaguar portrait photos.paste)
