Vijf jaar geleden zag Ian van Self Made Custom Painting de lowrider-creaties van Kandy N Chrome uit Los Angeles voorbij komen. Hij wist meteen: ooit wil ik die stijl vertalen naar een motor. Geen kopie, maar een eigen interpretatie met strakke lijnen, metallic effecten en de diepte die alleen candy-lak kan geven.
Die kans kwam toen Erol van Inkredible Customs met zijn Road King binnenstapte. Zonder het te weten maakte hij een droom van Ian werkelijkheid.
Wat volgde was een project waarin creativiteit, vertrouwen en vakmanschap samenkwamen. Zonder vooraf uitgewerkt ontwerp werd laag voor laag een unieke Cholo Road King opgebouwd in Forest Green en Lime Green. Freestyle, maar met uiterste precisie.
Tijdens de reportage voor Bigtwin Magazine viel me opnieuw op hoe vaak bijzondere projecten ontstaan doordat mensen elkaar de ruimte geven om hun vak uit te oefenen. Het resultaat is dan meer dan een motor alleen.

Sommige motoren trekken aandacht door hun onderdelen. Deze Road Glide doet dat door zijn details.
Voor het spuitwerk werkte Sander samen met Ian van Self Made Custom Painting. Wat begon met een inspiratiefoto groeide uit tot een opvallende Performance Bagger met candy-gouden lak, strakke lijnen en als ultieme finishing touch: écht bladgoud.
De gouden accenten werden met de hand aangebracht en vervolgens subtiel bewerkt voor een uniek effect. Een arbeidsintensief proces dat deze Road Glide zijn eigen karakter geeft.
Op de Bigtwin Bikeshow zorgde de motor voor veel reacties. Volgens Ian was het simpel: "Mensen vonden hem geweldig of helemaal niks." En misschien is dat precies wat een goede custom bike moet doen.

Van tattoo-studio naar showstopper. Deze Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special van Sander combineert performance, touringcomfort en een paintjob die onmogelijk onopgemerkt blijft.
Samen met lakkunstenaar **Ian van Self Made Custom Painting** werd een uniek ontwerp gerealiseerd, geïnspireerd door de Amerikaanse performance bagger-scene. De candy-gouden lak, handmatig aangebracht bladgoud en strakke lijnen maken deze Road Glide tot een echte blikvanger.
Maar achter de looks schuilt ook serieuze performance: Öhlins-vering, een S&S 475-cam en een zorgvuldig opgebouwde stuur- en rijwielsetup zorgen ervoor dat deze bagger net zo goed rijdt als hij eruitziet.
En volgens Sander is het project nog niet klaar. De volgende stap? Een 136 ci Crate Engine. 🔥
