From leadership barriers and visa challenges to unequal access to opportunities and the recognition of overseas qualifications, colleagues spoke openly about the realities shaping careers across our global majority nursing community.
The conversations were bold, personal and solutions-focused, all helping to shape a more inclusive future for our nursing workforce. Here's a few snaps from the event.
“No two days are the same. I can feel comfortable and pain free one morning and unable to get out of bed the next,” she explains, highlighting how symptoms and mobility can fluctuate significantly.
Darcy-Ivy also challenges common misconceptions, noting that there are multiple types of EDS and that no two people present in the same way. The condition affects more than just the physical, impacting energy levels, social life and emotional wellbeing, particularly during flare-ups.
What makes the biggest difference is understanding and flexibility and being able to rest when needed, pace activity and having others who take the time to learn how the condition affects daily life.
Her message as awareness month closes is simple: EDS does not define you. With the right support, you can still achieve your goals. 💪 Thanks for sharing your story, Darcy-Ivy. To learn more, head over to our website via the link in our bio.
Associate Ambulance Practitioner, Aimee and Paramedic, Karl showed the children around an ambulance, answered some of their burning questions and explained what happens when someone calls 999.
Thanks to Aimee and Karl's visit, it helped build an understanding for the children of what to do in an emergency, while taking away some of the fear often associated with ambulances. 🚑
⚠️ Think carefully before entering any open water. Conditions can change quickly and hidden hazards such as currents, cold water shock and sudden depth changes are not always visible. Where possible, choose designated swimming areas with lifeguard supervision.
⚠️ If you get into difficulty in water, focus on controlling your breathing. Try to remain calm and float on your back to help stay afloat and conserve energy while you wait for assistance.
⚠️ If you see someone in trouble, do not attempt a rescue by entering the water. Call 999 immediately and request the fire service for inland water incidents or the coastguard for coastal or tidal areas.
Please take care, stay aware of your surroundings and look out for one another. 💙
Over the bank holiday weekend, we saw one of the busiest periods of the year so far, with more than 11,000 emergency 999 calls handled – around 32% higher than the previous weekend.
A huge thank you to all our colleagues and volunteers across the Trust in our Emergency Operations Centres, 111 Contact Centres and frontline teams who worked tirelessly under sustained pressure.

When Lee’s heart stopped in the early hours of 31 January, his wife Manu called 999 after recognising something wasn’t right. Within minutes, Dispatcher, Sophie had mobilised help, with Paramedics Lois, Troy and Bacher arriving first, followed by Mark, Ryan, Jessica, Caleb and Joshua.
For nearly an hour, crews delivered lifesaving care including five defibrillator shocks and continuous CPR before Lee was taken to hospital, where specialist teams treated a blocked artery and fitted two stents.
Four months later, Lee and Manu were reunited at Thanet Make Ready Centre with some of the colleagues involved in his care - Dispatcher Sophie, Paramedics, Lois, Mark and Bacher and Student Paramedic, Ryan.

This year, our target was an average Category 2 ambulance response time of 28:19. We’re pleased to share that we achieved 27:46, while also responding to 30,000 more calls than the previous year.
To put this in context, the national year‑end position is expected to be around 30 minutes, which makes this result even more significant.
Behind these numbers are long shifts, difficult decisions and thousands of moments of care that often go unseen. They reflect the commitment of our teams and partners, all focused on improving the service we provide to patients.
At the same time, we recognise there is more to do. We are continuing to work towards a 25‑minute Category 2 response time and this performance gives us a strong foundation as we move into the year ahead.
🙌 We want to thank all our teams and system partners whose dedication made this possible and to thank the public for your continued support.
We remain committed to improving our service and delivering the best possible care for the people we serve.
From the bystanders who dialled 999 and began CPR - Andrew and Steve - to our call handler, Chloe, dispatchers Laura and Sarah, our crews on scene, Lauren, Terry, Tom, Lauren and Sophia, and The Air Ambulance Charity KSS, every link in the chain of survival played a vital role.
Standing together in such a significant place alongside Pete brought home just how important teamwork, CPR and early defibrillation are in saving lives.
Stay tuned to hear more about Pete’s story over the coming days. 💙
