I don’t see it that way.
Every mountain has value when you’ve prepared for it with commitment. The training, the early alarms, the doubts, the excitement, and all the small efforts that slowly bring you closer to a goal.
What I’ll remember most from this ascent isn’t the summit itself. It’s leaving under the stars, the silence of the glacier, and watching the first light slowly set the Alps on fire.

❄️Je me souviens encore de la première fois où j’ai vu sa face, depuis la route Napoléon en plein mois d’août, avec cette réflexion d’enfant: « Wah, y’a de la neige, ça doit être si haut. » À l’époque, la montagne m’était encore totalement inconnue.
🍀Je suis revenu dans le massif l’été, il y a cinq ans, puis presque plus rien. Jusqu’à revoir cette fameuse face nord-ouest, son histoire, son austérité, les crashes d’avion, cette immense banquette et cette traversée. Et surtout ces doubles vires sous le sommet, avec cette photo de deux alpinistes restée gravée dans ma tête.
🌞Plus au nord, les conditions sont mauvaises. Ici, la face est bien remplie depuis un moment, sans beaucoup plus d’infos. Mais il y a cette sensation qu’il y a quelque chose à tenter.
🗡️On change le plan initial, et on part à deux vers cet inconnu. Le but semble probable, et au pire, il y aura toujours autre chose à faire dans le secteur.

Un Abalakov, c’est une technique d’alpinisme pour descendre en rappel directement dans la glace.
Le principe est simple:
On perce deux tunnels avec une broche, jusqu’à ce qu’ils se rejoignent à l’intérieur.
Ça crée un tunnel en forme de V.
Ensuite on passe la corde dans ce mini tunnel, et ça devient notre point d’ancrage pour le rappel.
Toute la descente tient donc… sur un quelques centimètres de glace.
Ici, la glace formait déjà une petite goulotte: On n’a eu besoin de percer qu’un seul trou et faire passer la corde directement.
Le pote appelle ça:

Un labyrinthe d’épées de granit dans tous les sens, des possibilités à l’infini et des couloirs presque assez larges pour claquer des fentes de télémark. Bravo les potes et, les surdoués du talon libre, tous deux multiples vainqueurs de la Coupe du monde qui font leurs armes en haute montagne. L’histoire va s’écrire les copains!
Vous n’allez pas tarder à nous montrer des virages d anthologie sur les plus hautes arêtes des Alpes. Ça a pas fait jusqu’ au sommet du « Chardo » mais hâte de voir la suite! 🙏
Une belle brochette de télémarkeurs un poil doués, dont Théo ( 🏆coupe du monde 26) qui faisait son baptême de télémark en haute montagne. Passage au milieu des séracs pour accéder au glacier de la Brenva, dans une ambiance assez incroyable.
Perdus dans les nuages sur l’un des plus grands glaciers des Alpes ( 2800 mètres de descente!)😀… un peu de tension, mais surtout de très bons moments partagés.

Cela fait déjà une heure que j’attends, immobile, l’œil collé à mon boîtier équipé d’un 600 mm. Depuis les hauteurs de Combloux, tout est calé car je sais que le moment sera bref. J’espère avoir bien calculé mon emplacement pour voir sortir la très attendue « Lune de Sang ». Pour les passionnés, j’utilise une app appelée Moon Seeker ( No sponsoring) qui me permet d’anticiper la trajectoire et l’horaire de sortie de l’astre.
Et soudain, elle apparaît. Rougeoyante. Elle surgit, pile au-dessus de l’arête des Bosses, à droite du sommet Mont Blanc.

Heavy accumulations of blown snow created an unstable layer of snow over more than a metre and a half. High temperatures up to 4000 metres quickly stabilised this instability in the sun. A good base layer for this winter if temperatures remain low. These heavy snowfalls have filled in the crevasses that have been open since the summer.
