At 9 and 11, Max and Seb are at that perfect age of pure wonder - old enough to explore independently, young enough to still be enchanted by everything. They didn’t just look for lions and elephants; they delighted in tortoises, bugs, tracks in the sand, and every tiny clue the wild offered. Their curiosity made every moment feel bigger.
And truly, the way cares for kids is exceptional! Their WildChild program added so much magic to our days — the boys eagerly checked off animal sightings, journaled their adventures, made plaster casts of paw prints, read nature books, and even did cooking classes between game drives.
This trip reminded me that adventure doesn’t wait for the “right age.” Kids grow fast… but right now, they’re wide-eyed, brave, curious, and ready for the world. And there’s nothing more beautiful than watching the wild come alive through their eyes.
A certain rhythm comes from living in harmony with the ocean — a steady pulse that binds everyone together and draws dreamers from around the world. When Typhoon Odette devastated Siargao in 2021, that spirit of togetherness galvanised. Neighbours rebuilt neighbours’ homes, local businesses supported one another and the island was reborn through compassion and grit. This is the magic of Siargao: where kindness is currency and community is a way of life.
My cover photograph is a small reflection of that — three women moving forward together, with the same quiet strength that defines Siargao and the people who call it home., and, champion surfers who have made waves beyond the Philippine seas, are the perfect symbols of the island’s intrinsic grace and resilience, and of the natural beauty and strength it embodies. Siargao is changing rapidly, facing another storm on the horizon — one born of irresponsible tourism and overdevelopment. Yet locals are once again banding together to protect the integrity and soul of their beloved island.
Armed with respect and openness, visitors will find that Siargao offers far more than sun-drenched sands and rolling waves. It’s a living, breathing symphony where the ocean and the people have long danced together — and where there’s still space for pause, humility, warmth and wonder.
