Reflexes → associations → schema. He’s out there building a model of the world. Fastest thing I’ve ever watched happen. We are so proud 🫶
We are all products of our conditioning. Every experience leaves an imprint, and the body keeps the score.

But anything learned can be unlearned. The ā€œselfā€ is just a story, a way of being, shaped by patterns and responses. Thanks to the gift of neuroplasticity, those patterns can change.

By curating our inputs and choosing new responses, we begin to reshape the story of who we are.

As Dr. Bessel van der Kolk writes, ā€œBeneath the protective parts… there exists an unbroken essence, a Self that is confident, curious, and calm.ā€

Healing is remembering who you were before the world left its mark on you.

Reclaim your aliveness.
Your brain is ignoring reality…

There’s too much information to process, so it only pays attention to what it thinks is important.

Like a chessboard—you learn to spot the patterns that help you make good moves.

When you train your attention (dopamine) toward meaningful challenges, you tune into optimal patterns instead of default ones. But that requires learning: stretching beyond your past knowledge, experiences, and assumptions.

Here’s the trap: when your ā€œchessboardā€ gets too narrow, your playbook shrinks. You keep making the same moves.

Flow is what expands the board. When challenge meets skill—just beyond comfort but still within reach—you get immersed.

The brain reroutes energy usually wasted on past/future worries or the nagging voice of self, and channels it all into attention.

That’s when you process more information, faster. Patterns sharpen. Insights emerge.

Think Queen’s Gambit: when Beth sees the board from above, moves unfolding with clarity and foresight.

That’s flow in real life—direct experience vivid and alive, like playing 4D chess with your own possibilities.
Our brains are predictive machines 🧠

Learning costs energy, so your brain uses past experiences to guess what comes next.

We’re all shaped by our environments. Sometimes that helps us, sometimes it holds us back.

Memory isn’t just a record of the past. It’s a lens for seeing the future.

Some moments stick—first kiss, graduation, wedding, loss of a loved one. Why? Your brain says, ā€œPay attention. This matters.ā€ Dopamine timestamps these experiences so they don’t get lost as background noise.

First times and once-in-a-lifetime moments naturally grab your attention. You feel awe. You’re present. You’re open.

Now imagine making space for everyday awe. Small moments can update your brain’s ā€œsearch algorithmā€ and connect you to what’s real and valuable.

Watch the sunset šŸŒ…
Make art šŸŽØ
Move your body 🤸
Reset and restore šŸ’†ā€ā™€ļø

Small acts like these keep your dopamine flowing and your brain tuned to what matters.

Protect your dopamine—it’s the currency of life’s vivid, unforgettable moments.
Happy Birthday, Evan, our sunshine šŸŒž
Your first year on this earth has been nothing short of miraculous.
In those first six months, you showed a strength beyond your tiny body, an absolute warrior, overcoming so much with quiet courage. And in these last six months, you've bloomed before our eyes. We are endlessly proud of you, sweet boy, and we love you so much!
Today we celebrate 4 years of marriage (and almost 7 together!). We met in the dust of Burning Man 2018, got married in May 2021 in the middle of the Covid era—and here we are, still saying yes. Yes to a sacred partnership. Yes, to the container we’ve built between us that honors growth, patience, and daily dedication. We’ve found that the wildest adventure is choosing one another, again and again ā¤ļø
Happy Holidays from our family to yours ā¤ļøšŸŽ„ #firstchristmas #pacotinhodeamor šŸŽ
Our righting reflexes are what create head-to-spine coordination and influence our daily posture and ability to function in the world. These are governed by small muscles in the back of the skull with the most torque pull per square inch than any other muscle in the body. Here’s a way to take control of our head and neck posture.

By the end of this 12-hour course, students should have a deep understanding of the interplay between somatic reflexes and predictive processing, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to offer highly tailored and effective manual therapy informed by the principles of sensory perception and neural expectation.

This is a NCBTMB approved course.

State over story.

I as a trauma-informed bodyworker will work with most neurological states.

Some trauma-informed providers may be trained to work with personal narrative, but most are trained instead to look at the physiological effects of stress and trauma.

It is important to delineate this, and to highlight the important works of psychologists, councilors, and other mental health providers for reframing narratives.
